According to Attorney General William Barr, Congress wants to either exceed or abrogate its authority if they call in a lawyer to question him. When homespun sex case prosecutor Rachel Mitchell, who would look more at home patrolling the streets of Fargo, N.D. than in a Senate hearing, started her questioning of Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, I am sure A.G. Barr leaped from his seat in protest—yeah right. You remember the dignified Dr. Ford, who accused Justice Kavanaugh of sexual assault, being subjected to an outside counsel hired by the Republican Senate Judiciary Committee to expose Ford as a liar and psychotic sexual fantasizer.
Yesterday Mr. Barr threw a wrench into the gears of justice by bringing up the prospect of not testifying Thursday before a House committee if a lawyer is brought in to question him. A spokesperson for the Justice Department summed it up this way“The attorney general agreed to appear before Congress,” Therefore, members of Congress should be the ones doing the questioning. He remains happy to engage with members on their questions regarding the Mueller report.” During the Kavanaugh hearing, the questioning of Dr. Ford by an independent counsel was objected to by her attorney. Chuck Grassley at the time of the hearing stated that the Senate Judiciary Committee wants to “depoliticize the whole process.”
Christine Blasey Ford’s lawyer, Michael Bromwich expressed similar concerns, like those of Barr, for his client’s rights to no avail. Ford through her lawyer had made “repeated requests through counsel that senators conduct the questioning." Of course, blatant hypocrisy has become the accepted strategy for conservative politics. From Senator Lindsey Graham’s (R-SC) sudden penchant for hissy fits and Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY.) daring to stand up for “fairness.” This sort of convenient politics is not limited to Republicans but conservatives do it with so little or no shame, it almost seems psychopathic, and this behavior trickles down from the top because the President of the United States has no shame. Think of the last time your child swiped a cookie from the jar without your permission. You found them with sticky fingers and chocolate smears on their face. They would deny it at first with heads bowed and voice quivering, then given a second chance they would confess.
The man who sets the tone for the Republican party has no such shame and that is psychotic. Not only would he tell you he did not eat a cookie but would tell you, you do not own a cookie jar and ‘we’ll see what happens.’ Donald Trump will look you in the eye of the camera and say, I did not payoff Stormy Daniels or Hillary Clinton started birtherism. Despite repeated instances of vulgarity when it comes to people of color, ‘sh*thole countries, and sons of b*tches,’ he says I am not a racist. Tropes and insults are not only a part of the hate filled groups who traffic in this rhetoric but is now a part of the President’s vocabulary. Not only is that a sobering fact but it is frightening.
So now in the midst of the lawlessness practiced by the administration, the U.S. is being dragged into the abyss. The supposed independent Justice Department is now complicit. A.G. Barr, now that you have declared non-congressional counsel unworthy of questioning you; when will you call for the reopening of the Kavanaugh Hearings?
