Is the Democratic Impeachment Effort becoming the Republican Health Care Plan?

For nearly ten years I have listened to the imagined Republican stories of death panels and scary  stories of Canadians in back rooms with butter knives performing surgery. They have taken votes, finagled the public’s emotions with imaginary plans that threaten to leave cancer victims and pregnant women without affordable health insurance. They have talked up a Tin New Deal on healthcare only to be followed by broken promises, broken legislative efforts and to all of that, I say thumbs down.

The Democrats are now faced with a dilemma of their own making, we have a crook in the White House and the remedy is impeachment, not a conviction or political strategizing but impeachment.  The constant refrain I hear from the Democrats are about the immorality of Donald Trump. Well, Nancy, Elijah, and Jerrold you have a moral imperative that is easier to fulfill than falling off a Russian log, impeach Donald J. Trump. I am fully aware of the fact that Mr. Trump controls both the Senate and the Supreme Court and the chances of his being convicted following impeachment are as likely as his reading a book, but that misses the point.

The President is refusing to comply with legal subpoenas from the House Oversight Committees, his Treasury Secretary [Steve Mnuchin] is breaking the law by stopping Congress from getting six years of Mr. Trump’s tax returns.  We cannot sit by as Americans and allow the normalcy of law-breaking to become a staple of the White House, our survival depends on us acting. As a rule, I am not an alarmist or conspiracist. I do not think more than one shooter shot JFK or some back lot in Hollywood is hiding a space capsule that did not land on the moon, and no Elvis is not enjoying a Mai tai with Tupac in Tahiti. I do believe that the most dangerous, ill-prepared threat to civilization walks in circles on the carpet of the Oval Office.

We have written proof and Trump WH staff telling us the country is being run by his assistants. I am a fan of Nancy Pelosi; I believe she is one of the smartest people in politics (not just female in politics).  I revere Elijah Cummings, and Jerry Nadler, both have been stalwarts of liberal causes and as a Black man, Cummings has seen, fought and survived the wars.  Nadler is hated by Republicans because he has become the poster boy for the National Journal’s annual poll of the most liberal Democrats in Congress.

With their deserved kudos and futures waiting to be memorialized, there is still work to be done. I voted in the last election for every Democrat in my district including county sheriff and school board chair. I did it because the top-down approach was failing and a bottom-up construct is needed. It will not work if leadership is timid. During one of MSNBC’s Chris Matthews’ Hardball segments, and his many interruptions of his, try-to-get-a-word-in-edge-wise guest, he defiantly asked what would Republicans do if the Mueller Report were entitled,  An Investigation into the Hillary Clinton Campaign?

Case closed; Impeachment hearings should start today.

Vote in 2020 for Change.
