The day after the long-awaited Mueller Report was released, the President was asked if Special Counsel Robert Mueller acted honorably. The President answered in the affirmative. “yes, he did.” With last night’s revelation that Mr. Mueller had a wide disagreement with both the Barr Summary and the Barr synopsis of his [Mueller] report; it makes perfect sense that Trump a few days later reopened his attack on Mueller’s veracity and honesty
In the intervening four weeks, it took Barr to redact a 400-page report, that he initially said he read in 24 hours before releasing a four-page summary, Barr had plenty of time to let Trump know written proof existed of Mueller’s objections to the report and to cover his ample butt. Consequently, the leaking of the Mueller memo to Barr, complaining that his team’s work was mischaracterized is another sad chapter of the current administrations bastardizing of the law. What Mueller says is that Barr, “did not fully capture the context, nature, and substance” of Mueller’s work, on the street that means, I am calling you a liar.
Every day friends give me the political and practical reasons to avoid impeachment. Not only have I grown weary of their dogmatic analysis, I am not only calling for the impeachment of Donald Trump but that of the Attorney General, William Barr. Both men are clearly guilty of criminal obstruction if not downright treasonous behavior. With the cloth of America wrapped around the axle of justice, what has been lost is the heart of the investigation, an attack on the sanctity on the American system of elections by a foreign hostile power.
Could it be any more apparent that Barr has been in direct contact with Trump constructing a strategy to clear the President? From the day Barr submitted a twenty-page resume in the form of a parole excuse for Mr. Trump, Barr went out of his way to repeat his rehearsed lines, “no collusion” and the “President was frustrated.” Republicans are fond of telling us that ‘collusion’ is not a crime. So, in what world has ‘I was frustrated, so I robbed the 7-11’ been a valid excuse?
The purity of the obstruction would not make the plot line of Law & Order, because it would be deemed too fanciful. I remember reading the best way to hide something was in plain sight. Trump’s liege has said the President obstructed justice on Twitter and on TV so it is not a crime. Rudy Giuliani told us a week ago, “There’s nothing wrong with taking information from Russians.” We have gone from Devin Nunes pulling a cloak and Uber run to the White House, in his unethical eagerness to protect the President, to the Attorney General of the United States lying to us all.
Can William Barr’s office effectively prosecute any case in the U.S. without scrutiny? Every accused murderer, drug dealer, smuggler, child rapist or President need only point to the Greek Goddess Dike and say the man [Barr] behind the scales is a liar.
