I married 41 years ago, and my ex-wife and I took a trip to visit her parents in North Carolina. I remember commenting on how nice it was to leave the snow in Washington, D.C. to enjoy some warmer weather. Yesterday in the state of my former in-laws, 12 inches of snow fell. Incredibly, drastic changes like this do not affect the thinking of conservatives for a simple reason, liberals labeled these climate shifts as “Global Warming.” Because Republicans are so wedded to messaging, they say things like, there cannot be Global warming because it is snowing in North Carolina, or Senator Jim Inhofe ( R-Okla.) brings a snowball to the Senate floor to prove science is participating in a “hoax.” They do not look at the constant shifts and drastic calamitous weather occurrences as a problem, they say science is wrong, God just changed his mind.
Speaking of ‘hoax,’ the President has inserted that word forcefully and repeatedly in the public debate more than Bill Clinton asserted he did not have sex with that woman. Both were lies, but Clinton was just afraid of consequences, Trump is just delusional. Just recently after Michael Cohen admitted in court and prosecutors made it clear that Donald Trump directed the breaking of campaign finance laws, Trump tweeted, “Totally clears the President, Thank you!” Republican after conservative after White Nationalist will cling to the word collusion like plastic wrap. No matter how much ancillary malfeasance or outright criminality is uncovered. Just like Global Warming and Climate Change, Collusion and Conspiracy, Republicans care more about the messaging than the result.

After nearly two years of investigation and over 90 contacts between the Russians and the Trump orbit, I am pretty convinced that conspiracy to defraud the American voter did occur. Once Special Counsel Robert Mueller publishes his long-awaited report of Trump/Russia he will use the words, conspiracy, a misdemeanor, plot, federal campaign finance laws, fraud, and deception. Republicans will dismiss the melting iceberg of lies and say he did not prove “collusion.”
Much like the dismissals of the overwhelmingly convincing evidence of the world’s scientific community that parts of the world will be underwater within the next 100 years, they will dismiss the Mueller report as faulty science. So, if a cop spots your getaway car parked, what he thinks is 15 feet from a fire hydrant, and catches you running from the bank with a monopoly bag of money, you should feel free to say, ‘I am parked legally, ignore my gun, the mask and my exploded red dye covered hands, ‘I am totally cleared, thanks officer.’ Respect for the rule of law and respect for American jurisprudence stops all of us from saying without recrimination that Donald Trump is guilty. Although, maybe it is not a bad idea if he is banished to the ‘lazy hell’ he believes Rex Tillerson dwells.
