Before Donald Trump emerges from a phone booth in his orange, white and blue spandex Tariff Man suit and builds his 30-40- or 50-foot high wall, I think Mr. Trump should not look at himself as a superhero but as the captain of the Titanic. Despite his grand promises of “Mexico will pay for it” and cheaper and better health care saying, “I am going to take care of everybody…” His false and insistent campaign cry of, “promises made, promise kept” has run into an iceberg.
Mr. Trump has ballyhooed his wonderfulness and fooled his deplorable masses without strong opposition for long enough. The Avengers takes office officially January 3RD and hopefully, they will not shoot themselves in the foot. No, I do not want Democrats to throw hammers, colorfully emblazoned shields or even shoot synthetic webs, all they have to do is enforce the rule of law. Mr. Trump has appointed an unvetted, unconfirmed( by the Senate) interim Attorney General [Matt Whitaker]. He allowed Michael Flynn for 18 days, despite the warning of probable espionage perpetrated by the former National Security Adviser, to have access to the most secret of secret information.
Donald Trump Jr. met with a Russian lawyer/envoy[Natalia Veselnitskaya]to ostensibly barter for information on his father’s presidential opponent, Hillary Clinton. Trump Sr. confessed to an NBC reporter his true motive for firing James Comey, because of the “Russiar thing.” The list goes on, emoluments, collaborating with a murderer [Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman] a despot or two or three and all with a disgraceful smile. The Democrats do not need Lex Luthor to stop Tariff Man they need to enlist the backing of the American people. C’mon folks I know you are out there. While our democracy teeters on the edge of the abyss we calmly watch daily news stories that try to normalize the uncivil, unaccountable and uncontrollable, until now.
I was inspired by the Bush Family this week. The kind gestures toward the elder Bush, the passing of a piece of candy from one past President to one past First Lady. The kind note that was written to the son of Vice-President Mike Pence by “Gampy” as he was affectionately known to his grandchildren. Over and over we heard the words decency and honesty when people spoke of George Herbert Walker Bush, but always lurking in the background was our supervillain, Tariff Man.
A phrase or acronym I was unfamiliar with was repeated by Bush’s closest friends and confidants CAVU ( Ceiling And Visibility Unlimited) on TV, during the funeral, and at his final resting place in College Station, Texas. That message was what every pilot wants to hear before takeoff, I hope Democrats learn a lesson from it. The people of America do not want a false hero or false hope they want their skies ready for takeoff. One way to do that is to ground Tariff Man and then we can look out at a ‘CAVU’ sky.
