Why do we allow well-conceived thoughts and ideas to be minimized by conservative zombie, think? These people are annually, perpetually and enduringly wrong. Democrats have allowed Republicans to derisively identify the party as the “Democrat Party” as opposed to the long referenced, Democratic Party, without loud and continuous correction. The self-regulating fear of being accused of holding valid “liberal” positions has been bastardized into the term ‘progressives,’ not as and identifier, but out of fear of being labeled, as if liberal is a dirty word. I use the term liberal to describe myself, with great pride. Liberalism has brought us Social Security, Workmen’s Compensation, Medicare, The Affordable Care Act, Wage and Hourly Work Laws, Child Work Place Laws, policies too numerous to list here. We have 8 hour work days and weekends off as a result of Liberal policies, for God’s sake!
This cowardice has allowed right-wing America to place a gun in the hands of nearly every man, woman and child in the country. “Progressives” acquiesced on the second amendment and permitted the squeakiest wingnut to get the most oil. In the late 1970’s, in many urban neighborhoods and liberal bedroom communities, even toy guns were ridiculed, when given to children as gifts. Along with the push to make cigarettes uncool, so to was the elementary introduction of guns as a toy and something to be revered. Guns, were quite frankly recognized by the general public for exactly what they were and are instruments of death.
Congressional Republicans, have now reached a new low of absurdity. Conservatives are objecting to banning gun purchases for suspected terrorist. People on commercial airline, no-fly list are still permitted to purchase guns at guns shows and through private sales with no background checks.
I took to the streets, in my youth, to protest the Vietnam War. The intrinsic knowledge of being on the right side of history, far outweighed those who said I was un-American. Eventually, the bravery of those of us who knew, we were justified LIBERALS, seeped into the consciousness of the country and the protestors were proven right. We need to stop cowering at the first sign of objection or unrequited flag waving. We’ve had the biggest economic growth over the past thirty years, with Democratic Liberal Presidents (Clinton and Obama). Liberalism has a long history of saving lives and fortunes. Stop being afraid, declare your liberalism, loudly and clearly, the legacy is something that should make you proud.
