How to be a Good Republican

Rule number one, you have to be willing to accept a false premise as truth, rule number two, live in an alternate reality.  These are rules number one and two to being a good Republican.

The ability to live in a fantasy world is attributed to childlike behavior, children don’t call what they experience as lies they call it “make believe.”  The response to a blatant provable lie by conservatives is to blame the media first, pivot to blaming their unfair treatment to those who love liberals and when all else fails, deny the truth, even when confronted with facts. In other words, it’s all just rainbows and lollipops. How else do you explain the plurality of conservatives who either believe the President is not a citizen, he’s hiding his allegiance to Islam or he never attended Harvard?  President Obama is either the shrewdest, mind controlling, con man of all time or conservatives are either bigots or fools; you take your pick.

For more than a week, despite numerous authoritative evidentiary contradictions, including from the original reporter,  Donald Trump has been telling the world he saw, “thousands and thousands” of cheering Muslims celebrating the destruction of the World Trade Center Towers in New York City.  When confronted with the truth, he skipped the first two steps of the conservative, ‘life without facts’ equation.  He went right to denial.  He even added a new wrinkle, by mocking the physical infirmity of the reporter he claimed wrote the story of the so-called celebration. Reporter Serge Kovaleski, suffers from a congenital disorder that causes tremors and spasmodic muscle movement and Trump thought it would be funny to draw his arms close to his body and wave them uncontrollably when talking about the story written by the NY Times reporter.  Mr. Kovaleski’s only crime was to point out, Mr. Trump was wrong in his ascertain that the Kovaleski story confirmed his lie.

Now in true Trump-mania, he is demanding the NY Times apology to him, for daring to accuse him of the vulgar, boorish behavior he prides himself on. With the mounting evidence of mischaracterizations, bogus statistics, racially insensitive speech and a general lack of any detailed knowledge of world events, Trump’s supporters say, it does not matter. Oh yes, yes they have the other conservative excuses for lying to fall back on, his foolish tirades are the fault of media or a plot by the liberals.  You too can be a Republican, just recall your childhood, you even get a clown car.
