Can Decency Trump the Donald?

Today, President Barack Obama maintained the decency of his office and allowed Donald Trump to attempt his ascension to the dignity of the office.  The problem is, very little dignity is possessed by the President-elect.  President Obama deservedly mocked the press by pointing out, that to no (surprise!), ratings are more vital than substance; Cronkite and Murrow just rolled over.  The President continued his respect for the value of his intelligence agencies in the face of many mistakes( by omission of commission), mainly by FBI Director James Comey. The President knows and said as much, that belittling the process only strengthens a Russia he described as contributing little to the economy of the world.

Ball in Mr. Trump’s court…

Mr. Obama touted the notion that America is still a great country filled with righteous men, who under the stress of foreign cyber invasion, will do the right thing.  The President served up the news of a non-partisan investigation to “assure” the public of the integrity of the process. President Obama repeatedly bemoaned the destruction of America through partisan dysfunction. Republican’s approval of Vladimir Putin has risen to 37 percent and in their zeal to hold onto a cherished win over hated, Muslim loving, baby killing, secularism... and Liberals, morality has been lost to political insatiability www.realclearpolitics.com/... .   “Not much happens in Russia without Vladimir Putin” the President stated.  I am sure most Conservative would agree, had the President not said it.  That sort of reaction from Republicans is just the destructive partisanship that the President fears.

I was squirming in my seat waiting for the President to stare into the camera lens and declare Mr. Trump a treasonous scoundrel.  Fortunately, darn it all, we have been blessed with a President grounded in the ideas the founders burned into the Declaration of Independence. “all men are created equal…” The President did satisfy my sweet tooth for retribution by unequivocally stating, “Hillary Clinton… wasn’t treated fairly.”  He even invoked the name of Republican deity Ronald Reagan when he said, “Ronald Reagan would roll over in his grave” at the thought of one-third of Republicans approving of Vladimir Putin’s leadership www.washingtonexaminer.com/...

Cut it out…

The White House apparently felt hamstrung, again, by the decency of the President, when he acknowledged he was reluctant to go public with hacking information as far back as September when he confronted Putin in China.  President Obama understood a foray into the inner workings of the Clinton campaign, beyond the standard stump speeches, with knowledge of Russian interference through confirmed hacking, would have been dismissed as dirty tricks; No investigation, no Benghazi like hearings or Fox News looping of damning quotes would be employed against Republicans had the news come from Obama. Simply put, the President sent an indicator to an absentee press to, in his words to Putin, “cut it out.” Not only did he admonish Putin back in September to cut it out, but sent a signal to the American Press to cut out the nonsense of covering Kanye West’s visit to Trump Tower and SNL disapproval tweets and concentrate on the real threat to democracy.  Mr. Trump is serving up a looping slow volley, the returning forehand is up to the press.

Vote 2018 it’s not too late!
