A SEAL HERE: DENIAL, LIES, AND CONSPIRACY

Once one denies the provable truth, the only recourse for a scoundrel is lies and conspiracy. As much as the Capitol rioters try and soothe their bruised feelings by pretending that destroying government property and attempting to impede the election of a duly elected President is patriotic or honorable, makes them more cowardly than suspected. Over the past few weeks, the miscreants of the GOP have stooped to invoking the memory of famed NFL football coach Vince Lombardi. Lombardi left behind a famous strategy session that garnered his Packers multiple championships and his name on the trophy for the World Championship of professional football.

“A seal here, a seal here, and try to run this play in the alley….”

The above words punctuated his famous play, the Green Bay (Power) Sweep. Last night and on the heels of conspiracy podcast appearances, Peter Navarro, former Trump advisor, and sycophant, tried his best to bamboozle MSNBC host Ari Melber with his political version of what he called the Green Bay Sweep. Navarro had given a version of his hair-brained attempt to reinstall Mr. Trump to the enthusiastic ears of Steve Bannon, currently under indictment for contempt of Congress for refusing to comply with a congressional subpoena. Navarro told Melber,“I went over tens of thousands of pages of documents and proved that the election was in all likelihood stolen,” Navarro said, “through fraud and election irregularities.” Of course, Melber added the obvious objection to Navarro’s lies, and the interview digressed from there.

Just weeks before, Navarro told the Daily Beast his plan relied on the cooperation of 100 members of Congress and not just his so-called evidence: “The Green Bay Sweep was very well thought out. It was designed to get us 24 hours of televised hearings,” said Navarro. “But we thought that we could bypass the corporate media by getting this stuff televised.” Navarro prefaced his statement with a plan that included 100 Republican members of Congress. “We spent a lot of time lining up over 100 congressmen, including some senators. It started out perfectly. At 1 p.m., Gosar and Cruz did exactly what was expected of them,” Navarro told The Daily Beast. “It was a perfect plan. And it all predicated on peace and calm on Capitol Hill. We didn’t even need any protestors because we had over 100 congressmen committed to it.”

Navarro’s appearance with Melber was more stunning than revelatory. Mr. Navarro did not say anything the public had not suspected that the desperation around the White House over Trump’s overwhelming loss elevated the crazy to new heights. What was stunning was his confession to a coup. Former White House lawyer John Dean once called the corruption in the Nixon White House “a cancer” on his presidency. Mr. Trump’s White House has made his followers the victims of a communicable disease. Slowly eating away at the sanity and vision of people intoxicated with a political sexiness based on myth, want, and fantasy. Another famous clip from coach Lombardi may be more appropriate for America than the lies of Navarro, Bannon, and others,  “what the hell’s going on out here!”
