Who Cares…?

My level of resentment rises when I see family members and other loved ones suffer high fevers, hacking coughs, and isolation within their own homes. One runs the risk of sounding callous or worst when talking about people who refuse to be vaccinated or, at a minimum, wear a mask. I am rapidly reaching the point of saying who cares about those who continue to be unvaccinated and unscientific. About fourteen days before the start of college this past fall, one of my grandsons came down with Covid-19. His symptoms were minimal, and—as I believe—his vaccination status saved him from an unavoidable fate, hospitalization, pain, labored breathing, and possibly death. That may sound alarmist, but when you see a spouse, a child, or a parent sick because others refuse to cooperate, it reduces your level of sympathy for their objections.

Having said that…

I think of the victims who cannot avoid the poor decisions of others. Children are becoming the victims of bad parenting, and service workers are playing dodge the spittle. Add the resistance of some police officers and members of the military who not only want to play spin the wheel with their lives but yours as well. When mandates are proposed, the uproar begins; when orders have been imposed, the uproar turns into threats of violence. Despite the efforts at resistance from the small pockets of police officers and military personnel, the majority cooperates. Resisters are willing to be the bad apple they so fear. For a period, loud and wrong protesters harassed school health officials and parents who wanted to comply to the point of distraction. Our kids are losing valuable and unrecoverable time, being out of school. The saddest part of all is that some Americans have taken away the best weapon to fight the pandemic—cooperation—and made it an endemic force.

Hearing the uninformed, anti-science fumblers say things like; you do not know what is in the injections" is so fraught with intentional obliviousness that it is dangerous.

We have all ingested, by sniffing, swallowing, or rubbing on medicines, balms, and syrups for most of our childhood lives and many into adulthood. How many of you know what is in the cereal you eat?

I spoke to my oldest son on New Year's Day, and the subject of his military service came up, and he laughed aloud at his fellow servicemen who are balking at being vaccinated. He told me of the mandatory vaccines he received when he joined. We estimated that he had received roughly twenty-eight vaccinations since birth, none of which he or I could describe the chemical composition. My son told me the phrase is Commander-in-Chief, not Commander-in-Chief of my choice. The difference was that the political side-choosing was not involved like what is happening now.

For the people who feel there is some divine providence or Constitutional right to kill their fellow man, I suggest you think again. You cannot yell fire in a crowded theater, start a riot, or call for the assassination of a President; So, if you decide you want to die of Covid-19, 'who cares,' but let the rest of us live.
