Now everybody knows there’s exceptions to this rule,

Now don’t be getting’ mad, when we playin’; it’s cool

Rapper and actor Queen Latifah, wrote those words in 1993. Her words seem most appropriate for Republicans who ruled the Senate with an iron fist in a barbed wire glove. The denial of Obama nominee, Merrick Garland, to the Supreme Court and a one week rush to confirm Amy Coney Barrett to that same court, mere weeks before the 2020 election is proof. The bare-knuckle obstruction to former President Obama's judicial nominees is almost legendary in Republican circles. The then-Senate majority leader, Mitch McConnell (R-KY.), who called himself the grim reaper, bragged to Sean Hannity about his purposeful foot-dragging on Democratic nominees and bills passed through the House.

Pardon me if I feel less than charitable about a party that encouraged insurrection and now feels butt-hurt because the Democrats want to pursue justice and uphold their Constitutional duty. Over and over when Republicans would win elections they were quick to say, we won, get over it snowflakes. There were no offers of unity or listening to the multitudes, 66 million in the 2016 election, who voted for the loser. The two-time impeached former president famously would sneer and tell reporters and his opposition, “The fake media is trying to silence us. But we will not let them. Because the people know the truth. The fake media tried to stop us from going to the White House. But I’m president and they’re not, said the former President.

Much to President Biden’s credit he is not using juvenile invectives or lying about the lack of testing kits, as per his predecessor, for a disease that did not exist when he was Vice President. There is such a lack of amenity on the floor of the House of Representatives, there is a real reason to believe that there are traitors in their midst. Recently and a few weeks after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi imposed financial fines on members, who would violate the House rules against bringing firearms into the chamber, Rep. Andy Harris (R-MD.) brought a gun to the Capitol yesterday.

With the yet to be investigated reports of GOP House members leading reconnaissance missions for the insurrectionists, the mistrust on behalf of the Democrats is earned. I wrote a few weeks ago about former Homeland Security chief Janet Napolitano's 2009 warning about the military being used as a farm to harvest ripened, trained white supremacists. So after ignoring repeated warnings about burgeoning right-wing supremacy groups; embracing tea baggers who brewed hatred and carried signs of Mr. Obama with a bone through his nose; turned a blind eye to Oscar Grant, Walter Scott, and Breonna Taylor, it took the murder of George Floyd, broadcast up close and in 1080pi to get America to say, hmmm, maybe there is a problem.

I was so afraid that America would revisit my worst fears and re-elect, as Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO.) so aptly described as, “the White Supremacist in Chief.” Instead, Joe Biden has a chance to bring about the change that started with the hope of Barack Obama.

Continue to Vote for Change.
