Got to Have it, Sole Power

Of the many hit songs written and performed by singer James Brown, his penning in 1971 of Soul Power was one of the more memorable.  The song was about love, unity, and subtly political power.  What it touted was the collectivism of soul power over sole power. Mr. Trump should heed this lesson in humility that apparently was sorely missing in his childhood. I am not now, nor have I ever been a fan of the pseudo-libertarianism of the late Senator John McCain, but I am squarely in his camp concerning the recent controversy involving the President of the United States, or his minion’s continued wetting on his [McCain’s] grave.

For the few of you who may have missed it, The USS John S. McCain is an Arleigh-Burke class-destroyer stationed in Yokosuka, Japan as part of the 7th Fleet. The ship was originally commissioned in July of 1994 and stood as memoriam to the McCain family of Navy Admirals. Including John Sidney McCain Sr, the II and now posthumously John Sidney McCain III.  Besides being miffed that the President of the United States was in Japan, who thrust America into the second world war, on a day that honors those who died in service to this country; the President chose this time to continue his disparagement of a real American hero, captured or not. Frankly, his heroism after his capture set apart his sacrifice and heroics in unimaginable terms.

In some misguided attempt to appease the President, the USS McCain and her crew were kept out of sight of Donald Trump on his Memorial Day Japan visit. This petty act instigated by either the President his staff or both as to not offend his childlike sensitivity at the sight or sound of the McCain name deserves more than just a 48-hour news cycle.

Setting aside the obvious, that the President is an immature man-child, questions need to be asked about who in the White House ordered this illegal act. This is important because someone without military expertise or authorization according to Mr. Trump and Acting U.S. Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan issued the command. “When I read about it this morning, it was the first I heard about it,” said Shanahan.  The danger of this story, if true, belies the very idea of military protocol and precision that could lead to an inadvertent war.  This is not the first time the President has claimed to be in the dark over the location or orders given to the Navy Fleet under his command.

In April of 2017, Mr. Trump sent what he described as an “armada”in the wrong direction as a warning to North Korea during his on again off again love affair with Kim Jong-un.  As heartbreaking as this must be for the McCain family to have a strategic moron and military coward, like Donald Trump, command the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines; the American people with fathers, mothers, sons, and daughters, potentially in harm’s way, should be just as appalled.

James Brown said it best Mr. Trump, “what you need is (soul power)” because it is obvious ‘sole power’ is dangerous in your hands.

Vote in 2020 for Change.
