Indecency: I know it when I see it

Donald Trump’s degrading of the position of the President of the United States is summed up in the words of a former Associate Supreme Court Justice.  Potter Stewart said in response to the pornography case of Jacobellis v. Ohio, "I know it when I see it." Although Potter said the case in question was “not that” I am not so charitable toward the Trump administration.  His Presidency is an indecent boil that has made America the butt of jokes around the world.  For nearly nine years I was forced to listen to the groundless and baseless whining of the right wing.  They asserted that Barack Obama who lived the American dream by first overcoming humble beginnings, raised a family, married a woman who is an exemplary wife and mother, and who obeyed the law, was a villain who hated God and was a secret insurrectionist.

That same Barack Obama who ascended to the Presidency of the United States is now mentioned in the same breath with a man who is the head of a family of scofflaws, lawbreakers and who himself may have been a part of a treasonous plot to defraud the American voter.  The anger that accompanied the false and insane notions of former President Obama’s birthplace or his academic record, that led to chants of, “I want my country back” seem more hypocritical than ever.   To all those Tea Partiers who donned three-corner hats, decorated with dangling tea bags, worn over their block headed thinking, I say, “I want my country’s sanity back.”

Mr. Trump, in an obvious effort to distract from his cold-hearted responses to the death of Jamal Khashoggi, allegedly by the Saudi government and the murder of 11 members of the Tree of Life (L’Simcha) Synagogue in Pittsburgh, gunned down by someone who felt his [Trump] rhetoric did not go far enough, is now talking about penning an Executive Order to override the 14th Amendment.  Do not be surprised if he goes back to the Obamacare well during his marathon rally tour before the 6th of November mid-terms.

If you remember the character Apollo Creed, from the never-ending Rocky saga, one of his nicknames was the Master of Disaster.  Well, the Don of Doom has descended upon the world, Muslim bans, White Nationalism, Puerto Rico, calling the press the “enemy of the people” and finally, ignoring the wishes of mourners in Pittsburgh.  If you take away the self-defined and self-imposed panic by conservatives during the Obama administration, the boring peace of mind he endeared is sorely missed.

Republicans spent the majority of Obama’s eight years in office impersonating Chicken Little.  I can only imagine the uproar and camouflage cap wearing militia men barricading their fortresses had Obama dared to suggest an executive order replacing a Constitutional Amendment, say the 2nd for example. I mentioned that to a conservative friend at school, his hands flew as if he was swatting imaginary gnats, displaying his frustration, and he threw out a non sequitur; “times have changed” he said, “we did not have this kind of immigrant “invasion” when the Constitution was written.” I countered by saying automatic rifles did not exist when the 2nd Amendment was written, the gnats swarmed again, and he called me a name under his breath as he walked away.
