A Spoon Full of Vinegar

I saw the words above some months ago and laughed out loud. I saw the same conglomeration of words repeated on a sign carried by a protester when Donald Trump inserted his presence where he was not wanted a few days ago in Pittsburgh; this time I did not laugh. As ridiculous as the Mary Poppins-like phrase, Super-callous-fragile-racist-sexist-Nazi-POTUS is, the real tragedy is there is too much truth in the words.  The Trump administration started as a ridiculous farce punctuated by an escalator ride and has morphed into Republicans continuing the downward trek into their collective moral abyss with glee.  Is all this “winning” as the President would describe it, worth the soul of America?

Eleven people were savagely murdered in their synagogue by a man who was angry that the Jews in the community displayed compassion toward immigrants.  Another man sat in his graffiti-laden van constructing bombs to punish and scare the people the President describes as his enemies.  The idea that the President of the United States when asked about his ability, to tell the truth to the American public, answers with, “when I can, I tell the truth” is astonishing.  The astonishment is not from his statement but his willing enthusiasm to shift blame. Most of us demure slightly when asked to vouch for our own character. The problem is that no one, including Donald Trump, thinks he is making honest mistakes, he purposely lies to us and when caught he calls it “fake news.” Some examples: his commission on voter fraud to cover for his repeated lie about 3 million illegal voters; instructing the Parks Department to revamp the story, that was proven by aerial photos, of his Inauguration crowd size being smaller than that of President Obama: and his departure from reality, hordes of Middle Eastern terrorist and Latin gang members coming to pillage and rape.

Everyone has an instance of lying they can recall about Donald Trump. Even his most staunch supporters will say things like, well he is a ‘disrupter,’ or he says what is on is mind. Conservatives stop fooling yourself, those are all descriptive words to avoid calling someone you like a “liar.” I grant you some things are an honest error or the result of misinformation, but the difference is a liar will tell another lie, an honest man will admit the truth.

You have heard the story more than once. The Central Park Five were teens accused of a heinous crime. Mr. Trump called for them to be put to death. Once mountains of evidence were presented to prove their innocence he stuck to his story and insisted they were guilty. I am not disputing that he believed the young men were guilty, but when your morality kicks in do you say, I made a grievous error.  Even today he would rather continue what is a proven lie. The same thing with the Obama birth certificate, Trump apologist will say he admitted he was wrong.  No, his answer was not I was wrong his response was,“President Barack Obama was born in the United States, period. Now we all want to get back to making America strong and great again.” If we all are as lucky as lucky can be, it is time to start sweeping America clean; Chim—Chimney—Chim—Chimney, Chim—Chim, Cher-ee!
