‘Fear’ and Fraud

America, we have a chance to redeem ourselves.  With the recent release of the book ‘FEARpenned by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Bob Woodward, we can either trust a renowned journalist or a proven liar.  Woodward is not a name we can lump in with people who tell us who to root for in the latest rapper beef or which wife in Atlanta or Beverly Hills is in a hair-pulling fight.  Mr. Woodward along with his fellow journalist Carl Bernstein helped preserve the rule of law by exposing the corruption of former President Richard Nixon.  The pseudo-hero of that era was Mark Felt better known as “Deep Throat.” Felt was the main source of information that helped bring down Nixon. At the time, Felt denied being the whistleblower but 30 years later finally revealed himself.

For those of us who lived through that sad saga in history, Republicans denied the journalistic charges levied by Woodward and Bernstein and believed Felt’s initial denials.  There are two quotes from Nixon that summarize where we are today, When the President does it, that means that it's not illegal.” Trump is hoping this is prophetic. Nixon also said, “Nothing would please the Kremlin more than to have the people of this country choose a second rate president. Putin may have made this prophecy a reality. Of course, the current President bragged he could possibly commit a public killing and his followers would roll over like an obedient Golden Retriever.

The idea that this President is not an outright fraud is becoming hard to deny. Just yesterday he denied the sorrow and truth of almost 3,000 Americans citizens who died as a result of hurricane Maria due to a lack of preparedness and response.  No one is arguing about the failed joint response of the Puerto Rican government and the mainland; but for a President, who constantly tells you he is the, smartest and the greatest, to deny the solemnity of the deaths of Americans is disgraceful.  He is sounding a lot like the deranged Alex Jones. He [Jones] has espoused every hair-brained conspiracy theory from Obama directing hurricanes, to the ghastly verbal and personal attacks on the families of the Sandy Hook massacre victims.

At some point, all the attempts at the normalization of Trump, who has publicly exhibited his lack of compassion, shown the inability to discern facts, and is unwilling to disavow racist have to be called exactly what it is: Unfit for the office.

Conservatives were able to disparage Michael Wolff due to his past journalistic failures when he published the book; Fire and Fury. They could call into question the reality reputation and self-promotion of Omarosa Manigault Newman and her book: Unhinged, but Woodward presents a unique problem, real ‘Fear.’ Other than the President, whose word is like that of Facebook Chairman and CEO Mark Zuckerberg (thinly veiled and preceded by mendacities and self-interest), no one has called Woodward a liar. It is hard to assail a man who honed his craft in the fires of Watergate and has had an impeccable record of honesty. Compare that to the man who prompts the thought of grabbing your umbrella if he tells you the sun is shining.
