Turning on Your Heels to Greet the New Lost Boys

When I was a boy, sometimes my great-uncle would turn on his heels, in the middle of a conversation with people, and walk away. I always thought that was so rude. He had always told me, listen to different viewpoints and respect other’s opinions.  When I was a little older, I gathered my courage because my uncle was a loud boisterous man, who did not believe in corporal punishment, but the volume and timbre of his voice were so penetrating, it was penalty enough.

I summed up the nerve, went to him and said, “you did not always practice what you preached.” There was no admonition or yelling, much to my relief, and he responded with the expected retort, “what do you mean?” I recounted my memories of watching him walk away from conversations, sometimes in the middle of a sentence. He said something to me that I have heard from others many times since “sometimes the more you listen the dumber you get.” We are living in the age of the dumbing down of America. For example, Ann Coulter who has described 3. 4 and 5-year olds as crisis actors; Corey Lewandowski who proved his membership as a card-carrying member of the ‘Trump cult,’by mocking the trials of a down syndrome child, and Laura Ingraham who is describing the return of United States run internment facilities, as “summer camps.”

It is time for decent Americans to turn on our heels…

Exactly what do I gain by listening to book peddling hucksters, failed political hacks and television pimps, like Ingraham, Tucker Carlson or Sean Hannity? Pimps may sound like a strong word, but what else do you call someone who uses and manipulates your mind for profit. The rumor of a proposed attempt at a second reboot of the ill-fated Roseanne Barr show is an example of why the media, so-called expert pols and the people need to turn collectively on the heels of our Jordans, Louboutins, Sketchers, and Birkenstocks. Anyone who believed the fantasy of a fair-minded conservative eutopia is either a fool, loves listening to fools, or sadly both.

According to the sitcom’s premise, Roseanne Conner, who supports President Trump and Vice-President Mike Pence, promoted the idea that conservatives have a favorable view of gender ambiguity and a mixed-race child. Anyone who believes that, is filled with as much foolishness as the show’s scripts. The Trump administration is in the process of creating a future enemy on our southern border. The abducted children and babies, whose numbers are in the multiple thousands and rising, will be adults someday and will remember.

With no plan for reunification and their parents being deported without them, the future could be a psychological hell.  Many of the children left behind may be filled with an understandable seething hatred. The conservative Conner(s) would not adopt these brown kids, but liberal Mitch and Cam would. America is in the process of creating our own version of “the lost boys,” because the girls are hidden. So, when you hear the stories of job losses, MS-13, and economic anxiety, turn on your heels. Texas Democratic congressional candidate Veronica Escobar talked yesterday on MSNBC about the cost of what it takes to care for the people detained after crossing the border, she said, it cost, “one-hundred thirty-four dollars per day, per person.” I guess that sort of economic anxiety is okay as long as you, give conservatives their country back or make America White Again.
