On October 11th of 1975 comic George Carlin performed a monologue on Saturday Night Live. Carlin was skewered by many on the religious right because he told a joke about how we chalk up the accidental death of kids to a supernatural being known as, “God’s Will.” The punch line was about a lynch mob searching for God, “let’s get this guy God, that’s the fourth kid he’s killed this week.” Click on the link, I am no Carlin. I grew up in a Christian home and still consider myself a Christian, ok, I still find it hard to disappoint my great-grandmother. I was nineteen years old when Carlin told that joke and I still remember my guilty laughter. Later in my life, I began to question a lot of things, the main one being, hypocrisy.

Yesterday I did not laugh at White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders or Attorney General Jeff Sessions. Although they both may be considered jesters for President Trump they lack humor. Unlike Carlin, who used clever satire to make a point, Sanders and Sessions seriously suggested that God favors separating small children and babies from their parents because it is biblical “law.” Sanders went on an incoherent rant against the parents of the children of undocumented immigrants. She, of course, insulted CNN reporter Jim Acosta’s intelligence, with what has now become the standard, the media is the enemy screed, then talked about the repeated instances in the Bible that mandates following the law in favor of caging children. She was following up on earlier assertions made by Jeff Sessions.

Ms. Sanders and Mr. Sessions, who throw stones from an ivory barn on a daily basis, seem to have forgotten an important verse. When the people brought the little children to have Jesus lay hands on them his disciples rebuked them, and according to the parable Jesus said, “Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.

Who will stand up and inform the Trump administration, that those who have been beaten, raped, starved, threatened with death and criminalized, the United States, is their heaven. The sheer hypocrisy of Ms. Sanders who stands at the podium and props up the lies of an adulterer, liar, and thief, hid behind some made-up Biblical law, that fit the moment. This is typical of the current immorality in the WH. I should not be surprised, that philosophy fits perfectly inside their embarrassing den of iniquity.

We are group housing children who were brought by their parents to the U.S. to escape the horrors and poverty of their lives and we treat them like animals. Where is my America? The crying faces of two, three and four-year-olds, who may spend 6 to 8 weeks away from their parents and must be feeling abject terror, this is just wrong, where is my America? I know the Republicans talk about deterrents, practicing their now mythical rule of law, and blame the parents and Democrats, but what is much worse, is not looking into their own soul.  Again—I ask, where is my America?
