When I was a child and would pout at the thought of not getting my way or an extra piece of candy, my great-grandmother would say, “you better straighten up your face before it freezes that way.” What made me think of those many moments in my childhood was waking up this morning with my cheeks and lips less painful and more relaxed. I stared at my keyboard thinking of something to write and realized I had a Trump free day yesterday. I padded around in my pajamas until noon, ate a late breakfast, [the brioche bun was delicious], and waited for the smells coming from the kitchen to turn into a finished feast to end my evening of football and laughter.
I did not purse my lips once, furrow my brow or tighten my cheeks in exasperation…
For those of you with any painful neck conditions, the lack of a disapproving headshake was probably a one-day relief as well. Oh sure, the President threw around innuendo about his predecessors, but he was easy to ignore yesterday. No thoughts of kneeling football players before yesterday’s game entered my mind. The National Basketball Association was off for the day, so no father was being called an “ungrateful fool” by the occupant of the White House. With the bar of decorum and decency set so low by this WH, yesterday was nirvana.
If we are lucky, the President will get so wrapped up in his weekend golf outing with Tiger Woods, that his little fingers of his little hands will only choke the shaft of a golf club. I fear instead, his morning bathroom breaks will again resume with his clamping down on the neck of America’s psyche. It seems even Trump supporters doubt his competence but love the way he sticks his finger in the eye of liberals or Obama cliques they love to call “O-bummers.”
I guess it should come as no surprise that a petty name calling chief executive is supported by petty name callers.
Ow! I just furrowed my brow…
It is becoming increasingly difficult to talk about Donald Trump with the sustained, analytical, judgment we normally ascribe to ‘normal’ presidents. Reagan’s economic trickle down and union busting was a blow to the middle class that is still being felt. George H.W. Bush was a victim of reality and had to raise taxes after uttering the famous, “read my lips...” statement. Bill Clinton’s repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act, many point out as the catalyst for the 2008 financial crash. The failures of George W. Bush are almost legendary, the Iraq War and the financial crash of 2008 to mention a few, changed history. The continued escalation of drone strikes under Barack Obama disappointed me. All the previous statements are political points for reasonable debate. Mr. Trump knows so little about foreign or domestic policy, the debate is reduced to 140-character attacks and meaningless bumper sticker banter.
The first signs of change were in the Virginia, New Jersey, and Washington State’s off-year elections; Alabama you have a chance to restore your dignity and decency, if not, your face will freeze that way…
