The Hillary Clinton critics are all a buzz because she has come out of the woods and is promoting her new book. In yesterday’s interview, with CBS News personality Jane Pauley, Mrs. Clinton talked about the mistake…, “I made” that may have cost her the election. It is popular for the news media, her critics and those who want her to go away, to say, she will not take ownerships of her failures, I beg to differ. Just like heavyweight boxers who suffer a blow to the head or ego, it takes a while to heal, reflect and come back with a rationale for the loss.
As expected, after a knockout, Mrs. Clinton seemed dazed, coming out of the political ring a loser. She stumbled around, denied the pain and like most boxers pretended the other guy never laid a glove on her. Similarly, like most heavyweights, she regained her bearings, reviewed the fight films and sought to explain what happened with a clearer head. The media and bashers were relentless, go away, take responsibility, you deserved to lose, you head-butted our hero to get the shot at the belt.
Despite what you may think of her personality, charisma, or lack thereof of, politically she is far more capable, intelligent, versed and was ready more than anyone else on either side to have been President. For the twelve percent of Senator Sanders’ supporters who reportedly voted for Donald Trump, yes, I will say it, you are delusional. The Susan Sarandon(s) and Rosario Dawson(s) who advocated blowing up the system and labeled Clinton “not a leader” if Bernie were not the nominee, welcome to Dystopia…
The interesting part for me is that I do not totally disagree with the opinions of Dawson or Sarandon, but why burn down the house to get new carpeting. I liked that comfy sofa in the corner and roomy kitchen with the familiar stove that leans a little to the left. It may not have all the new, fancy innovations, but my food gets cooked, my meals are safe to eat, and it is efficient. That may sound like a boring or even slightly sexist view of Mrs. Clinton, comparing her to an old gas stove, but I like her low flame. She has been a staunch and consistent advocate for women’s rights, she risked her political career to start the ball rolling on the still contentious health care debate, her work to desegregate schools in Alabama is now legendary.
There is no perfection in Hillary Clinton that is what made her an attractive candidate for me. She was willing to try and fail and come back for more. CNN reporter Chris Cillizza writes extensively about the Clinton baggage; Rules not applying, vast conspiracies, surrounded by sycophants and not telling the truth, sounds more like the current occupant of the White House. For anyone who thinks that Hillary Clinton would have been a female Trump, I ask that you re-examine the past 8 months. The pawing jabs to our relationships with allies, the uncertain feinting with enemies to avoid a big blow, and the meandering of a President on the verge of being knocked out; ask yourself, would the trainer be ready to cut off the gloves, with Hillary on the stool for the next round?
Vote in 18’ for Change… Ding, ding!
