In February of this year, the South Sudanese government declared an official famine in the northern region of the country. Among the starving are an estimated 275,000 children http://www.latimes.com/world/africa/la-fg-southsudan-famine-20170220-story.html. Less than a month later, the Trump administration threatened to slash the foreign aid budget. Eight Hundred and thirty-nine million dollars of that money goes for humanitarian aid in the South Sudan. http://www.cnn.com/2017/02/28/politics/trump-budget-foreign-aid/index.html. The President dropped 59 tomahawk missiles on Syria last night, at a cost of 94 million dollars, because he was so struck by the chemical suffocation of children and babies, the attack “crossed a lot of lines for me,” he said http://dailycaller.com/2017/04/05/trump-chemical-attack-that-killed-babies-crossed-a-lot-of-lines-for-me/.
Was it the pictures that offended the media creation or was it truly suffering children? If that is all it takes, I can produce hundreds of photos of children slowly starving, seeing their ribs ripple through their skin. I wonder if those darker brown children in Africa deserve less consideration? Mr. Trump, starving is as deadly as being bombed by a monstrous dictator. Before anyone decries comparisons of how children die, that is not my point. I now live in a country that has refused to allow children to escape the ravages of war by denying them entrance and cuts money to starving “babies.” All Under the flag of a christian nation. I am not upset that the President decided to punish the cruelty of Assad, I am confused by his inconsistency. The money spent by the US on foreign humanitarian aid is approximately 0.24 percent of GDP and 1 percent of the annual budget.
What the President of the United States has achieved is a world crisis of confidence. Everything he does is examined with a jaundiced eye because of his constant obfuscation, alternative facts and outright lies. This morning America woke with one question on our collective minds, was this truly to avenge the horrors of a chemical attack or was it the latest distraction from the Russian scandal? I mentioned earlier, 94 million dollars as the cost of 59 tomahawk missiles. That price is just the cost of the hardware, not the planning or deployment http://finance.nine.com.au/2017/04/07/15/09/how-much-a-tomahawk-missile-costs. Ignorance is dangerous. Does anyone believe President Trump has a grasp on how America’s foreign policy impacts the world?
When asked a few days ago during a joint press conference( 20:41mark) with King Abdullah II about the influence of Hezbollah in support of ISIS the President looked as if the question was asked in Klingon. King Abdullah II answered with a coherent and strategical assessment. The President answered the voices in his head. The reporter tried to reiterate the question and he[Trump] answered with a childish avoidance and said with false authority, “you will see.” I included the entire press conference to allow the President to, hoist himself on his own petard.
This is the man who has a literal finger on the nuclear button. I am sure the soldier tasked with carrying around the nuclear football must always be thinking, if the President calls my name how far can I run before I get shot or caught.
