I was accused of being a partisan today. I was standing in line at the local drug store, buying a healthy bag of candy, wearing my Obama 2009 Inaugural t-shirt. Betty White’s clone looked back over her shoulder (apparently, she had seen me in the store earlier) and said, “he’s what’s wrong with you liberal weaklings, so one-sided.” Anyway, I thanked the woman because I don’t ever want to be straddling the fence. I want to be on the ground working, not teetering to one side and falling for lies. I wanted to ask if the Trump supporters wanting to make America great again were one-sided but why confuse her with facts.
Speaking of facts…
Is it just me, or has the new President made sure to surround himself with as many uninformed people as possible so no one tells him he has no clothes. Amid the solemnity of the moment, International Holocaust Remembrance Day, President Trump issued a statement not mentioning Jews www.whitehouse.gov/... . Is this not the same GOP and man that bemoans year after year the omission of Christ at Christmas? How do you honor the sacrifice of people WITHOUT MENTIONING THE PEOPLE!
Black History Month…
Besides intimating that Frederick Douglass was still alive, he died in 1895, Mr. Trump read off the names from my 1967 Negro History test. Rosa Parks, the beforementioned Frederick Douglass and he threw in a name that was not on my sixty -seven test Dr. Martin Luther King. As a young black child growing up thinking that the only contribution to American history by black people was peanut oil (no shade, Mr. Carver), Mr. Trump had recent history to pull from. We just had the first African American President of the United States leave office thirteen days prior. A few words about George Washington Carver, he was a renaissance man, artist, biologist, scientist and teacher www.history.com/.... Instead of focusing on the accomplishments of these distinguished Americans he chose to tout one of his mouth pieces, Paris Dennard (I know nothing about him either) and Omarosa Manigault, ‘come on down!’
National Prayer Breakfast…
Mr. Trump ended his inane week of miscues and insults of at least two countries, Australia and Mexico, by sandwiching in a morning prayer and uttering the famous line, “the hell with it.”.com/4658012/donald-trump-national-prayer-breakfast-transcript/
I started this piece by talking about my partisanship. I am a liberal, I make no excuses or bow my head in recriminatory shyness. I am proud to be a liberal, not a progressive but a liberal. I am sure those of you who walk the conservative aisle are just as proud. We have been distracted by tweets, “on notice” tantrums, lies of then campaign and now Whitehouse staff. There are millions around the world protesting because they see creeping fascism. Why not ask yourself is partisanship wrong or is ignoring the truth the real problem?
