White Suburbia is the New Black

Hillary Clinton did it with the truth and as usual Donald Trump employed the use of tin-eared flawed logic.

In truth, both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump sought to solidify and attract voters by speaking to and about Black people through proxies.  Yes, married white suburban women are the new Black.  Hillary Clinton, who constantly fights the perception of dishonesty, made a straight forward appeal to middle-class white women by laying out the racism label they deservedly would carry by voting for Mr. Trump.  She brilliantly used the Trump doctrine to skewer him. Quoting Mr. Trump, his campaign chief operating officer Steve Bannon and his White Nationalist supporters he was virtually, hoisted on his own petard.

The Donald, recently stood before predominantly white audiences and told them how only he, as some sort of great white father, could pull African-Americans out of the quagmire of their lives. “You live in poverty, your schools are no good, you have no jobs” I guess his vision of that ‘shining city on the hill’ for African-Americans is really a roach infested shack he thinks occupies every Black neighborhood in America. Makes me wonder how that Obama guy got into office. Oh yeah, according to Mr. Trump he’s really a Manchurian (or Kenyan) spy.  I guess I should feel fortunate, somehow I’ve survived potential gunfire when I walk my neighborhood, I graduated from a good school and held a pretty good job until my retirement. You asked a question to your version of Black America Mr. Trump, “what the hell do you have to lose?” In my case, and we do think individually despite the racist stereotyping of Breitbart News, my dignity, my character and a future for my grandchildren.

I would be a poor example for my sons their children and my family if I allowed an element that I grew up seeing as a child reemerge without my resistance.  My great-grandmother told me a story, when I was a boy, about her job working in a commercial laundromat a s sheet folder. She told me about the Saturday morning visits from the owner, who would declare in a loud voice upon his arrival, “how are the mammies today?” That was in 1951 in Washington, DC.  For those of you saying to yourself, that is an era that we will never see again, ask comedic actor Leslie Jones if those attitudes are dead and buried. Ms. Jones has recently been the subject of vicious racial subjugation through her social media accounts, posting of private photos online, caricatures and vile hate. All because she dared become a success in the remake of the classic comedy, Ghost Busters. The irony is, one of the main characters in the original movie was portrayed by a black actor named Ernie Hudson.

So the racist, some of whom found a home on the comment pages of Breitbart News, combined their misogyny with racism and have set out on an unrelenting hate filled campaign to destroy Ms. Jones.  Donald Trump hired Steve Bannon, the executive chairman of this dubious publication, as his campaign manager.

Hillary made an open and honest play for fair-minded Republicans to reject the ideas of Steve Bannon and his white supremacist followers.  Donald Trump winked and nodded his way through patronizing insults and a racially tinged verbal tirade.  “What the Hell do you have to lose” the soul of America, I say.
