The best description of Donald J. Trump were the two words used this morning by the father of late Captain Humayun Khan, “ignorance and arrogance.”
The amount of arrogant-ignorance displayed by Republican nominee Donald Trump over the past seventy-two hours has been breathtaking, even for him. He has shown an astounding amount of misinformation about the Russian incursion into Crimea, his on again off again relationship with Vladimir Putin and his insistence on insulting the Gold Star set of immigrant parents, of an American hero. These instances are just a part of a long history over the past year of Donald Trump’s prevarications. I am trying hard to not stoop to the word liar, but Mr. Trump makes that almost impossible.
I have to admit a few TV journalists are finally not allowing themselves to be pawns in the corporate media game of, let’s make this presidential election a horse race. Joy Reid, of MSNBC has in particular staked a claim on truth in journalism. She has repeatedly challenged Trump surrogates and not swallowed her words or deeds in order to garner repeat visits from charlatans in the guise of honest brokers of the truth. An example of this was a recent interview with conservative talk show host Heidi Harris (no really, Heidi) and retired combat veteran and terror expert, Malcolm Nance. Mr. Nance after listening to some inane defenses of Mr. Trump in his attack on the family of Captain Khan deservedly exploded in anger, “this family has given more than you will ever give for the rest of your life. I am saying as a combat veteran I don’t want to hear it!” Harris after some intervention of calm by Joy Reid stated, “you got to understand, I’m only supporting Donald Trump because he’s the last one left. He’s not the person I wanted to be President. I don’t want Hillary. That’s the only reason I vote for Trump.”
Whenever you hear these sort of morally bankrupt statements emanating from the Trump camp, you wait to see some semblance of an ethical compass guiding the path of his instruments of propaganda but alas, it never follows. Has hatred so immersed the Hillary haters that they are willing to sink the ship in order to wash the deck? To you Hillary haters reading this both Democrats and Republicans, are your lips so starved for something soothing to taste that you would resort to poison?
Khizr Khan described Donald Trump as having a “black soul.” Roger Stone another Trump excuser, is a man who touted the Michelle Obama “whitey tapes” during the 2008 campaign of her husband, President Barack Obama. (By the way the alleged tapes of Michelle Obama referring to white voters as “whitey” were never produced after many false promises that they would be). He is now accusing Khizr and Ghazala Khan of some secret connection to the Muslim Brotherhood, according to an article penned by Sophia Tesfaye for Salon magazine.
Hillary Clinton said, there is “no bottom.” Actually there is, his name is Donald John Trump.
