If I were to tell you of a legally described rapist, guilty of bilking hundreds of thousands of dollars to which he paid a 25 million dollar fine, incited a riot, and tried to subvert the voting will of the American people and who wanted to run for public office, under normal circumstances, you would laugh in my face. The problem is we have a political party scaling the mountain of fascism so fast that the thin air suffocates all that accompany them. The Grand Ole Party ignored a mandate from the Supreme Court in Alabama and attempted to change the Ohio constitution with a late summer special election. In Texas, Governor Greg Abbott was temporarily rebuffed, by the courts, in his effort to eliminate the Harris County, Texas election board.
Donald Trump, the described rapist, con man, alleged rioter, and perpetrator of election fraud, was indicted for a fourth time in the fourth jurisdiction yet leads the Republican party—while out on bail—for their presidential nomination. The GOP’s mantra concerns the weaponization of government and a two-tiered justice system, yet their leading candidate has promised, “I am your retribution.” How exactly do the cult followers of Mr. Trump imagine his retribution? Monday’s indictment of 18 in Georgia’s Fulton County—aside from himself, most who held federal or local government positions- were the definition of government weaponization.
Leaving out those Trump sycophants who choose to blind themselves like Oedipus, the charges against Mr. Trump are clear and decisive—even the much-maligned charges by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. None of Trump’s defenders ever dispute the charges. Their defenses always center around accusations of bias, weaponization, or in the case of the former president, when discussing Georgia D.A. Fani Willis or New York prosecutor Alvin Bragg, reverse racism. We saw a photocopy of the hush money check to Trump’s paramour Stormy Daniels, and we know it was related to his efforts to hide his affair prior to the 2016 election. He has admitted, more than once, saying the documents belong to him in his second indictment for retention of government documents. Most have heard the audio tape of him bragging about his possession and seemingly showing military attack plans of Iran to two autobiographers working on a book about Trump’s former Chief of Staff, Mark Meadows. The third indictment outlines his plot to interrupt Congressional legal proceedings and remove every American’s most fundamental right to vote.
Monday night, a very prim but tired Fulton County, Georgia, District Attorney Fani Willis issued a 97-page indictment naming Mr. Trump and 18 others in a RICO (Racketeer Influence and Corrupt Organization) case to steal an election. Trump’s opponents, who never hesitate to throw unfounded legal darts at President Joe Biden, encase Donald Trump—in their confessional stall and absolve him of all wrongdoing. Each day as if his cratering campaign is not enough, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis proves his unworthiness but is the face of Republican incompetence. DeSantis is trying to regain the ear(s) of Micky Mouse and move on from his Goofy attack on the happiest place on Earth. Could DeSantis be working on a new slogan for Florida that he hopes the GOP and Trump will adopt, ‘It is not the heat, it is the stupidity.’
