You’ve heard the old riddle, “the more you take away the bigger it gets”- answer, a hole.
The Republican Party has fallen into a hole so deep, dug by bigots, homophobes and obstructionist that the rebellion against their nominee is no longer an open secret, it is just open. It has gotten so bad that Mary Matalin famed Republican strategist and defender, officially changed her party affiliation to Libertarian. She wanted it so emphatically known, she announced it on national television, she did not even wait for the infamous Friday news dump. The mantra of racial division and anger stirring hate speech, used by Donald Trump, has been so widely repeated that more attempts at hyperbolic disgust are useless.
Actor/Producer Rob Reiner, said a few days ago on MSNBC that the appetite for Donald Trump is a result of there being, “a lot of people who are racist.” Of course the attempts to blunt his argument with the old cliché formed in a question, are you calling all Trump voters racist, was responded to with the incredulity that white privilege in America deserves. Mr. Reiner, to his credit, dared the pundit to dispute his assertion with facts, the answer was uncomfortable snickering and silence. Things like voter suppression, painting the Black Lives Matter movement as paranoia are the same tactics used from the sixties until now. Martin Luther King Jr. was an agitator; Al Sharpton is a race hustler, this type of rationalizing are just dodges to avoid responding to the real problem.
When Mr. Trump is accused of racism or sexism the questions are never, let’s talk about the truth of why he is using sexism and racism as a tactic, the onus is always placed at the feet of the accuser to explain why he or she have these misplaced ideas. As a 60 year old Black man in America I’ve been told that, open bigots, racist and Klan members in Congress were something I had to accept. No moves were made to denounce the ideas these men had or have. I am told to remember Jesse Helms and Strom Thurmond as noble southerners standing up for states’ rights. During his first run for office President Obama faced weekly threats of so-called secret tapes of him or his wife speaking despairingly about white people. Fox News touted this for weeks, Republican hitman-strategist Roger Stone who claimed the existence of such a tape, has never produced or explained its nonexistence.
Roger Stone is back once again. Prior to Donald Trump becoming the presumptive nominee for the Republican Party he called for the names of delegates who are non supporters of Trump to be named and their locations at the convention be revealed, for what purpose, you will have to ask Mr Stone. So now the quandary for the the Party is to continue down the path of ignominious history or defeat with the candidate they chose over sixteen others. If the racist have their way, the Trump debate with sanity will begin probably in October. Nothing, rewards its patrons with very little, in this case that little is Donald Trump. The Republicans have plenty of nothing and nothings plenty for them.
