Opinion: The Fox in the Hen House

I can confirm that Donald Trump was right; voter fraud did happen in the 2020 election. If you remember, a band of middle-agers, septuagenarians, and I would guess octogenarians paraded through their retirement village [The Villages in Florida] in the fall of 2020 drunkenly and obscenely professing their undying or dying devotion to Donald Trump. Sixty-three-year-old JayKetcik, 71-year-old Joan Halstead, and 61-year-old John Rider, who reside in the Villages, are all charged with voting in and out of Florida. Again Mr. Trump was correct. Mr. Ketcik used mail-in voting as part of his alleged fraud, while the other two presumably used the mail to cast absentee ballots in other states. There is an arthritic hitch in their get-a-long; they are all registered Republicans, with at least one having a Facebook page dedicated to the awe of the former President.

I think my lukewarm response is proportionally sane. I am not alarmed or surprised that in an election where approximately 157 million Americans cast a ballot, a handful of zealots would be willing to risk their freedom. What is way off the rails is amassing hundreds, if not thousands, to storm the Capitol, erect a hangman’s scaffold, defecate on the walls and halls of Congress and beat and eventually kill a police officer—all in service to a lie and a liar. Republican Liz Cheney cited chapter and verse Monday night the plot to kill American democracy. I assure you had Donald Trump been installed as President on January 6,American democracy would have ceased to exist.
We would be in the clutches of a full autocracy, and it baffles me that the public is so passive. We allowed Jim Jordan and Matt Gaetz to make a mockery of the two impeachments of Trump and, with the help of the press, dismissed the proceedings as a partisan exercise. We ignored special counsel Robert Mueller when he told us the former President was guilty of ten counts of obstructing justice. Primarily Fox News told us Mueller was no longer cutting the swashbuckling path he once did. They wrote his age robbed him of the vigor to make the case. Even a former Obama adviser joined the chorus,  “This is delicate to say, but Mueller, whom I deeply respect, has not publicly testified before Congress in at least six years. And he does not appear as sharp as he was then,”said David Axelrod. The media allowed the White House to exercise the first rule of propagating a lie; they ignored the obvious.  A call to extort Ukraine President Zelenskyy was allowed to become a debate. Standing before the Memorial Wall of Stars at the CIA that commemorates fallen agents, Trump chose the occasion to continue his first little lie as President of the United States, misstating the Inaugural crowd followed by a steady stream of attempts at dismantling the press.

Completely missing the solemnity of an occasion seems to be what his fans like most. Whether tossing paper towels to storm-ravaged Americans in Puerto Rico or calling fallen soldiers losers and suckers, his minions soak up the evil. America’s moral fiber dissolved a bit more every day, and with the help of FOX News, the chickens who peck on the droppings from a subversive media conglomerate should think about locking the henhouse. The Fox[News] is at the door.
