Vaccine Takebacks

Among the hundreds of lies told by the former president, one has proven to be particularly dangerous to public health. “That’s all I hear about now. That’s all I hear. Turn on television—'Covid, Covid, Covid, Covid, Covid, Covid.' A plane goes down. Five hundred people dead, they don’t talk about it,”…Donald Trump told a crowd in Lumberton, North Carolina, on October 24th of last year. He finished by saying, “Covid, Covid, Covid, Covid.’ By the way, on November 4th [2020], you won’t hear about it anymore,”said Trump. The signal to his cultists was to ignore science and resist the impending vaccines as a show of political defiance, soothing his conspiratorial mind. Hence began in earnest the politicization of the Coronavirus vaccine.

Former White House doctor and now Congressman Ronny Jackson (R-Tex) is making noise about the so-called election variant. Claiming the Democrats want Covid-19, to continue vote by mail, in a further display of GOP paranoia. Here comes the MEV - the Midterm Election Variant! They NEED a reason to push unsolicited nationwide mail-in ballots. Democrats will do anything to CHEAT during an election - but we’re not going to let them!Jackson Tweeted on Saturday. Maybe the current state of the University of Texas Football put a burr in his saddle. It is not surprising that Jackson would issue such a wild statement, nonetheless disappointing from a physician.

Of course, Jackson was the former White House physician to Mr. Trump, who claimed the Big Mac King was the healthiest president in history and that the former president weighed 239 lbs. “I told the President that if he had a healthier diet over the last 20 years, he might live to be 200 years old,”Jackson said in a fanciful 2018 press conference that at times elicited laughter from reporters.  Jackson is the canary in the coal mine for the new assault on President Biden. The latest GOP claim is that Joe Biden is failing to convince Republicans to get the vaccine. The GOP and their propaganda machine have spent months talking about implants, mind control, and “freedom;” In a concerted effort to stop widespread vaccinations, all to put Joe Biden in a bad light. You would think it was infrastructure week; oh yeah, he got that done.

Republicans talk out of both sides of their mouths without drooling.

Take the case of Rep. Nancy Mace, who suggested to former GOP Congressman and now FOX News host Jason Chaffetz that herd immunity through exposure to the virus may be the best answer to stem the spread of Covid-19. “One of the things the CDC has not done and no policy-maker at the federal level has (sic) done so far has taken into account what natural immunity does. In some studies that I have read, natural immunity gives you twenty-seven times more protection against future COVID infection than a vaccination. A few hours later, telling CNN’s Kaitlin Collins, “I have been a proponent of vaccinations and wearing masks when we need to. We had the Delta variant raging in South Carolina, I wrote an Op-Ed to my community, and I work with our state department of health; I have run ads encouraging my district to go and get vaccinated, ”said Mace.  I suppose a case could be made for exploring all options, but I think Rep. Mace fears offending the crazies awaiting the return of JFK Jr. while balancing her appeal to the rest of us who reside on planet Earth. Putting misinformation into the ethos of American politics requires more than a lukewarm takeback.
