Civilized societies dictate that every opinion counts: but is that true? Put another way, yes, everyone is entitled to their opinion but the real question is; should every opinion count? Oh sure, there is value in hearing everyone out, but what happens once that opinion is given is what separates us from going the way of the Dodo bird. I am willing to bet when the Wright(s) told friends they could fly, or Bell said he could pass his voice over a wire to the next room, their friends smirked. They probably believed that either one or both brothers had fallen on their heads as a result of one of their experiments or Bell had gotten too close to the bathtub with the wires he used. Setting aside people who are bona fide geniuses, and those ahead of their time, modern society has fallen into a hodgepodge of Grimm-like fairy tales, and more frightening they are seeing their tall tales as truth.
The idea of dying to own the ‘Libs’ has left a large number of conservative thinkers (that is not fair) lunatics, (better) dead or dying. Daily, we get new videos of fire and brimstone school board meetings with testimony from citizens, telling of awaiting hell fires for educators. If not that, some screeching lunatic warning against electronic body invasion or a zombie-like substance being injected by the guvmint. Dealing with the typical Republican think machine is pretty easy to handle. When TEA Party members held up signs that read ‘Keep the guvmint’s hands off my Medicare’ there was enough humor to allow you to snicker and walk away. I can imagine the ‘libs’ who favor pro-choice, get the same kick when anti-vaxxers carry signs that read ‘My body my choice.’
Through it all, the danger is that these people are getting a public forum from cable news channels in search of an extra rating point. Sure, some might say burying one’s head in the sand gets you a bite in the butt. I am not saying these people should be ignored but they should be called out as fools, often and loudly. When we give them anything that resembles credence or a CNN, or MSNBC crew stares gazingly (or stunned) into their vacant or angry, irate eyes, like a reality show would-be star, that is their moment to shine. They puff and scream and threaten and I imagine producers whisper in the earpiece (IFB) of the correspondent, keep going you’ve got something. What field reporters should be doing is giving their cameraperson the cut sign, and muttering into the mic, this is a waste of time.
These loudmouths do not fear embarrassment, they fear being ignored. When we do not stomp out the weed at the root it grows back stronger and more poisonous. That moment on tv gives them celebrity, from there we get Reps. like Marjorie Taylor Greene, Lauren Boebert, and the latest contestant, Rep. Madison Cawthorn who was on the verge of promoting civil war Monday. “Anybody who tells you that Joe Biden was dutifully elected is lying to you,"Cawthorn said. "The things that we are wanting to fight for, it doesn't matter if our votes don't count,” Cawthorn continued, “Because, you know, if our election systems continue to be rigged and continue to be stolen, then it's going to lead to one place — and it's bloodshed.”
