The Republican members of the House of Representatives convened their star chamber this morning and ousted the most conservative member of their caucus. GOP House conference chair Liz Cheney is under fire for breaking one of their sacred tenets—not embracing duplicity and hypocrisy. The vote was held in secret because although the Republicans are willing to blanket conservative media with declarations of Rep. Cheney’s so-called treachery, they were not willing to allow the American public to see them embrace the Big Lie. The irony is that Ms. Cheney was compliant with one of the biggest and deadliest lies in American history. Her father former Vice President Dick Cheney headed a false information campaign (leading us into the Iraqi war) that cost the lives of countless American soldiers and hundreds of thousands of civilian lives, and both Cheney(s) were in lockstep.
When Dick Cheney leaked information to the New York Times's Judith Miller, then subsequently went on the Sunday Talk show circuit and cited the Times as one of his sources, it was not only devious but pure evil, as well. Disregarding the devastating human toll, then VP Cheney also had a financial interest that logically had to be a part of his decision-making process. Author David Corn outlined how Liz Cheney aligned with her dad and made statement after statement supporting every lie her dad told. Even going so far as to, profit from a book. Ms. Cheney defended the lie of “weapons of mass destruction” characterized those who were against cruelty as “libelous” for calling waterboarding “torture.” In her zeal to prove her conservative and religious bona fides, Ms. Cheney publicly labeled gay marriage such as that of her sister Mary as wrong. Cheney reiterated earlier statements about her sister’s marriage when she saidthat she and her sister "just disagree" on the subject of marriage equality. Her sister’s partner [Heather Poe] painted a different picture when she wrote, “Liz has been a guest in our home, has spent time and shared holidays with our children, and when Mary and I got married in 2012 – she didn’t hesitate to tell us how happy she was for us. To have her say she doesn’t support our right to marry is offensive, to say the least.” That raises the question; did Ms. Cheney lie for political gain or was it a big lie to her sister?
Although Ms. Cheney is to be lauded for not adopting the real treachery—the destruction of democracy, the stench of her conservative politics wafts over the progress of the nation like cows in the pasture—her politics stink. I have tried to feign the liberal outrage and support Liz Cheney but I cannot, I have a good memory:
Liz Cheney on the Green New Deal:
“I would just say that it’s going to be crucially important for us to recognize and understand when we outlaw plane travel, we outlaw gasoline, we outlaw cars, I think actually probably the entire U.S. military, because of the Green New Deal, that we are able to explain to our constituents and to people all across this country what that really means.”
Liz Cheney on the 2017 Tax cuts: Cheney who voted against the Biden Covid Relief package misinformed the public in 2017
‘…By letting Americans keep more of their own money, this bill will generate economic growth and create jobs.’
I suppose Big Lies when they suit your aims, are ok. I am not on the Liz Cheney boat, because what she seems to be good at, is sinking democracy in her own way.
