As much as I would like to take credit for the fitting title of this piece, I cannot. I heard it for the first time yesterday afternoon (April 8th) on the Randi Rhodes radio broadcast. A caller from Philadelphia used the two-word descriptor, and I found it apropos to the current spate of mass gun violence. I immediately thought of the people who sleep with guns under their pillow; Whispering sweet nothings into the muzzle while gripping the barrel. Gun owners caress, lube, and probe them, all to make sure they perform on command. The bigger the gun, the greater the pleasure. The gun enthusiasts defend the comfort, the shape, and the power more fiercely than Ted ever defended Heidi.
If you think I am exaggerating, say that AR-15 stands for Assault Rifle-15. One almost has to open a separate account to field the mad email messages from the gunsters and ammo-sexuals. A lot will call you stupid (amongst other niceties) screaming you have no idea what you are talking about it is “Armalite, Armalite!” Of course, they completely ignore the real issue of bleeding children, party revelers, and moviegoers just out for a good time, ending up on coroners tables with toe tags. The endless tears of mothers and fathers, sons and daughters, who are the extended victims of gun violence, have little relevance.
I love my gun and until death do us part...
Gun lovers who say they need a gun to defend their Constitutional rights, defame that same document by bastardizing the 2nd Amendment. When the 2nd Amendment was written, men carried single-shot muskets and there was no standing army. ‘A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed.’ The people who argued the use of the verb “is” in the Clinton Impeachment trial, rely on the comma following the words “free State” to justify arming themselves to the teeth. The political lines that are drawn between those who want common sense to prevail over those who want unfettered rights to wield weapons of human mass destruction are as ridiculous as the excuse of hunting dear with an Armalite-15. Republicans are even on an island with their conservative constituency who see the need for common sense intervention.
Yesterday President Joe Biden introduced an Executive Order to ban ghost guns. Essentially a ghost gun is an untraceable gun kit that can be assembled at home. If anyone has seen the movie ‘Full Metal Jacket’ there is a pivotal scene in the movie that it seems private citizens have adopted. Before lights out gunnery Sgt. Hartman instructs the Marine recruits of 3092 to name their weapons after a woman [girl] and pray.
Parental Advisory warning:
Sgt. Hartman was addressing highly trained troops, but the theme and substance of the prayer are still frightening to hear. I have no proof of it but I can imagine the cosplay troops holding up in the woods, calling themselves militias, wholeheartedly believe in that prayer.
