Radicals or Game Changers?

The country needs to take a second look at the meaning of radical and change. Since January of 2019, the Republican party has drawn from their quiver, poisoned conservative-tipped arrows, sharpened and aimed directly at the liberal heart of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. As has been consistent with the Republican party for the past 40 years, women, people of color, and anyone not willing to grasp onto the latest conspiracy theory borne of paranoia and racism, like a hungry dog with a bone, is canceled quicker than a Covid riddled sporting event. The 2019 incoming Democratic class of women entering Congress, dubbed the Squad, is made up of Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley, and Rashida Tlaib. None of them incited insurrection or called for the death of a vice president but yet they are called radicals and not positive agents of change. Their biggest ‘crimes’ have been trying to save the planet, preserve black and brown lives, and raise millions of dollars for frozen Texans.

Compare them with the walking, talking personifications of Republican radicalism, Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (MTG), Lauren Boebert, and Matt Gaetz. The contrast is like looking into a limpid pool and the other like staring at the sun; one calming the other blinding, burning, and blistering. We have seen the video of MTG stalking then teen David Hogg on the streets of Washington, DC, shouting to him, and inferring that she was armed while blaming Jewish financier George Soros for bankrolling gun control legislation attempts. That incident was on the heels of the harrowing experience of seeing 17 of his [Hogg] classmates gunned down in his high school. Re-traumatizing a victim who witnessed a mass shooting is not only irresponsible behavior, but also indecent. Besides the feigned outrage by conservatives over the perception of Rep. Omar’s supposed anti-Semitic comment, the most shocking thing a member of the Squad has done, was Ayanna Pressley revealing she had a malady that resulted in the complete loss of her hair. I guess resembling an “adored one” from Wakanda, scares Republicans.

Speaking of the adored one, saint Ronald Reagan has been most responsible for the conservative spread of oppression, regression, and depression, making the GOP the anti-government party. The trope “welfare queens” became the rallying cry for conservative racism. Trickle-down economics has done nothing but widen the wealth chasm into a canyon. Twice since 1981, the United States has experienced depression-era economic numbers, both times under Republican presidents—G.W. Bush and Trump. Despite the dry hole the GOP/neo-Libertarian party has become, Reagan permanently poisoned the well with his edict warning Republicans that the nine scariest words you can hear are, ‘I’m from the government and I’m here to help.’”

Had the Democrats (specifically the O.G. Squad leader Speaker Nancy Pelosi) had not stepped in, the Social Security check grandma receives monthly would have fallen prey to privatization in 2005. Had George W. Bush been successful, by the end of 2007 grandma would have been on the street with a tin cup.

The extent of the strains of radical politics currently running amok in the Republican party has come front and center in the past months. Aside from the arrest of Trump loyalist and former State Department employee Federico Klein, charged with assaulting a police officer among other charges, and who also held a top-secret security clearance; Lt. Charles Flynn, who was recorded taking a bastardized oath to America that ended with a pledge or nod to QAnon, is the brother of convicted former Trump National Security Advisor General Michael Flynn, and may be implicated in the insurrection. Lt. Charles Flynn’s role and why the Pentagon either lied or covered up his involvement in the lack of response from the National Guard to the rioters at the Capitol on January 6, is suspicious, to say the least.  Michael Flynn, if you remember, retweeted a call for martial law and a rerun of the 2016 election. Accompanying the tweet was a message from Mike Flynn that read, Freedom never kneels except for God.” Looking at the recent Senate vote, championed solely by Democrats, to relieve the suffering of millions of Americans with the Biden Covid relief package, determining who is the radical and who is for positive change needs redefining.

Continue to Vote for Change.
