Two names, Dr. Anthony Stephen Fauci and President Donald John Trump. Dr. Fauci has served as the Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases since 1984. That spans six presidents, starting in the second term of Ronald Reagan to the current commander-in-chief Donald Trump. Anthony Fauci has been an instructor, chief resident at Cornell Medical Center, and was at the forefront of AIDS research, West Nile virus, SARS, Ebola, and now the novel Coronavirus. Fauci’s career accomplishments are heralded most by his colleagues and former students. No higher tribute can be afforded a professional than to have five of six presidents say you have performed exceptionally.

In contrast to Dr. Fauci, we have the current President of the United States.  A businessman who has had bigger financial losses in a ten year period, between 1984 and 1995, than possibly any other man in history, aside from the Great Depression. That includes gambling casinos and a bogus university. His academic prowess has come into question over the past weeks with a revelation from his niece Mary Trump’s book that he allegedly paid someone to take his SATs. His failed presidential performance was preceded by a stint as a tv show host, and firing Omarosa Manigault Newman.

Is there any real question about the moral or intellectual heft of these two men?

Dr. Fauci is not totally blameless, his first pronouncement on the ineffectiveness of mask for the general public, have proven to be a mistake.  Not correcting the President publicly and forcefully when Mr. Trump told us the virus would go away when the weather got warm and hydroxychloroquine was a miracle drug. Later Fauci revealed some of this was due to political pressure but he failed to live up to his own words,

“You should never destroy your own credibility. And you don't want to go to war with a president. But you got to walk the fine balance of making sure you continue to tell the truth.”

Who of us can forget the struck dumb look on the face of Dr. Deborah Birx when in the midst of a Coronavirus Task Force news conference, Mr. Trump turned to her and asked if somehow introducing light[internally]or injecting a disinfectant would be a treatment. The news media has allowed itself to be drawn into a distracting argument between an esteemed doctor and as former President Obama told us a man whose previous biggest life decision was if to fire rocker, “Meatloaf.

Mr. Trump who stared into the sun during an eclipse and thought author and abolitionist Frederick Douglass is still alive wants the American people to trust him with approximately 57 million school children’s’ lives. As for me, no dice, even in a bankrupt Trump casino. Mr. Trump successfully distracted from his failure to protect the United States military from Russian paid hitmen, with the pardoning of one of his collusion cronies. Let us keep our eye on the ball, Mr. Trump has threatened to defund schools—what irony. He just wants to win in November and is flailing. He knows most schools get the majority of their funding from state and local taxes. Meanwhile, Mr. Trump is assembling his own private police force with the backing of his own Roy Cohn, one William Barr. So, while Mr. Trump throws balls in the air, pay attention to the juggler, that is the real show.
