Frustration often leads to hyperbole. Treason against the United States of America consists of- “only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort.”-Article 3, Section 3. Things like—the President orchestrating photo-ops with the murderous Mohammad bin Salman and any number of despots is not treason. Actively working to reverse gains to the environment are not treasonous. Ignoring the cries of teens in crisis over gun violence is not treasonous, but it is shameful.

Standing on stage next to Vladimir Putin in Helsinki and disavowing the reports from U.S. intelligence of his tampering with our elections system is comforting and aiding the enemy. Allowing the security force of a dictator to openly attack United States citizens is aiding a foreign government. Standing in the Oval Office and yucking it up with the Russians over the firing of America’s top cop, James Comey is the definition of comforting the enemy. By the way, during that May 2017 meeting, Mr. Trump may have given classified information to the Russians and exposed the identity of a U.S. spy. Donald Trump admitting that he and Kim Jong-un ‘fell in love’ is so much comfort, it makes me wonder if they at least kissed first. All those actions are treasonous.
Despite Mr. Trump’s cascading rainfall of treasonous or near treasonous behavior, this past weekend’s revelation of the President inviting the leadership of an active war combatant to Camp David was the topper. Let me state unequivocally, I am happy to know the leader of the free world wants to negotiate peace. Unfortunately, what we have learned was that the talks were planned around the commemoration of the biggest and deadliest attack [9/11] of American civilians in history. The invitees would be representing the Taliban, who killed an American soldier [Sgt. 1st Class Elis A. Barreto Ortiz, 34, from Morovis, Puerto Rico] just a week earlier.
Explaining the myriad of blatant, clandestine and outright criminal activity of the Trump administration is exhausting. Reportedly the President told his underlings, that if they broke the law on his behalf not to worry he would “pardon” them. This egregious and open defiance of the law has become so commonplace by Trump it now gets the ho-hum treatment from the press and the American public. The danger of reaching a normalization point with the actions of a lawless President, incapable, compromised or unwilling to follow the law is dangerous.
Grifting the public by having the American taxpayer foot the bill for his hotels, golf outings and even the questionable spending on his 2017 Inaugural, indicates no theft is too small, no ethical violation is too big and no moral compunction will stop him. Yesterday during an interview with Chuck Todd on the Sunday news and information program Meet the Press, Senator Roy Blunt (R-MO.) was asked:
Todd: “Before I go, should the American public take the president at his word when he speaks?”
BLUNT: “Well, the president communicated differently than anybody else...”
The real answer is not an equivocation Mr. Blunt, if the immediate answer is not yes, then Houston we have a problem.
