It’s not how you say it…

I can almost see a lot of you shouting at the screen you have it wrong. I know the old adage actually reads, “it is not what you say, but how you say it.” If you listen to Chris Matthews, Jake Tapper and other members of the media, apparently a good bumper sticker is better than a good policy. I hear more than I care to, the question,” where is the Democratic message?” The media pundits are not seeking the what-- they are asking for a catchy slogan. Well, Making America Great is not working out too well for a little under 60 percent of Americans.

Democrats want to move America into universal healthcare, which would put us on par with the rest of civilization, not have 25% of the world’s incarcerated population, respect people who look different, not lead the world in gun homicides and love who you want.  That will not fit on a bumper sticker, nor should it. That is the difference between policy and slogans. The Republican Party has made its peace with a lying sexual predator, who is a possible dupe of the Russian government willing to destroy the institutions of government for personal gain.

President Donald Trump is now constructing a fantasy of spying on his Presidential campaign. Despite having not an iota of evidence, the Justice Department is indulging his nonsensical charges and instituting an investigation.  So far, an informant who literally may have risked his life to root out Russian involvement in our election system has been outed (I have chosen not to use his name here). This from the same administration that alleged, cried and gnashed their teeth over an unmasking charge against former Obama official Susan Rice. Of course, Rice was cleared, even after Kellyanne Conway suggested your microwave could be used as a spying device.  The press finally moved back into the world of sanity and exposed the President’s claim as just another of his many, many, many, lies.

Trump’s sycophants make the rounds on tv and trash their credibility for the sake of the President, no matter how outlandish or foolish they make themselves appear. Yesterday Kirstjen Nielsen, Homeland Security Secretary, claimed she had no knowledge of seventeen U.S. intelligence agencies concluding that the Russians worked to aid Mr. Trump and hinder Mrs. Clinton’s campaign in the lead up to the 2016 presidential election.  Just a week ago the Senate Intelligence Committee came to the same judgment as the seventeen intelligence agencies. So, either Ms. Nielsen is a massive liar or refuses to read, either way, her Trump imitation is both craven and wanton.

I mean those descriptive words literally.  This is a woman charged with the internal security of the United States and she said publicly that she is unaware of what at least fifty percent of the country knows. That only leaves three alternatives, she is either stupid, a liar, or both.  Either way, if she is that much in the dark, she represents a clear and present danger; another Trump trait she should not copy.
