King of the Bungle

An old African proverb reads: “If the surviving lions don’t tell their story, the hunters get all the credit.” A lion of industry and former Trump Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, who is also a former Exxon executive; a lion of the military and former National security Adviser Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster and a lion on the run, Marine General John Kelly, have all challenged the President’s intellect.  Tillerson made an utterance that will be the punchline of jokes for school kids for the next one-hundred years, President Trump is a“moron.” H.R. McMaster reportedly was too cerebral for the President’s liking and called Trump a, “dope with the intelligence of a kindergartner.” Now we have Chief of Staff Kelly, who displayed his own Trump-like ability to be a cretin and lie, in the Congresswoman Frederica Wilson incident, but is now calling Trump an “idiot.”

It appears that the old lions are heeding the words of the African intellectuals and are attempting to claim something other than complicity before the moronic, idiotic, kindergarten lion tamer is eaten by his own ego. My fingers tremble a bit each time I stroked the keys to type the words, Dope, Moron, and Idiot to describe a United States president.  As much as I disagree with the commander-in-chief, the thought of being led by stupidity scares me. What still astounds me is that a man who lies for sport got enough support in America to be President. A country that built a railway and highway system that linked the country, fought and won two world wars, sent a man to the moon and for years was the lead nation of the free world, elected a ‘moron.’

America had its issues with the inhumane cruelty that was used to confiscate land through genocide and used the brutality of forced labor to build its’ infrastructure, but even with that legacy, no one doubted the intelligence of the men leading it, just their morality. Wanton cruelty may be more insidious than ignorance, but cruelty is correctable, wanton ignorance is purposefully corrupt.  The abandonment of principles by at least half of America’s political hierarchy went beyond embarrassing today. A misdirected group of Republican Trump-ites, it was revealed today, threatened blackmail.  Using the words of Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein today, talking about the demand for the release of documents involved in the investigation of President Trump and his associates, “There have been people who have been making threats, privately and publicly, against me for quite some time,” he said. “And I think they should understand by now, the Department of Justice is not going to be extorted.”

The cracks in the justice system are being pried open with crowbars wielded by thug-like behavior from the less than professional emissaries of President Trump: Devin Nunes(R-Ca.), Jim Jordan(R-Oh.) and Mark Meadows (R-NC) who is leading a mob of Republicans toward impeachment of Rosenstein.  My language may sound harsh using mob metaphors to describe the behavior of the current President and the family, but I join former F.B.I. director James Comey when he admitted Trump’s actions are like that of a gangster family.  The things we are excusing under this President, criminality, lying, and threats are unacceptable.  America, we need to stop covering our eyes the hunter is approaching.
