Ignorance of the Trump is No Excuse

As a young black man, I was suspicious of the FBI, via the Department of Justice, and it has lasted for the entirety of the fifty-three years since the assassination of Malcolm X and the fifty years following the murder of Martin Luther King Jr. My friends will tell you they would have never thought they would hear me say these words, “I am in full support of the FBI.” My only alternative is to believe Devin Nunes (R- CA). The clumsy attempts to run interference for Mr. Trump, by Mr. Nunes, are so amateurish had the New England Patriots followed Nunes’ lead block, Tom Brady would have deflated years ago.

I thought it apropos to quote an illustrious jurist, “even a dog distinguishes being stumbled over and kicked”- Oliver Wendell Holmes. Well, Devin Nunes is not only kicking the face of American jurisprudence but he is taking specific aim at its teeth.  It is easy to lay out a history of innuendo and empirical evidence to cast shade on the harsh light of the FBI. Herbert Hoover’s legacy of nefarious deeds against the Black Panther Party, surveillance, with the purpose of blackmailing the Reverend King Jr., and the long-time suspicions of their duplicitous role in the murder of Malcolm X.

The aforementioned evidentiary disclaimers are to point out that my current support of the FBI is for reasons that have nothing to do with unquestioned faith.  Despite my questions, I am a loyal American citizen but unlike the President, I have not taken a public oath of allegiance to protect my country. Despite the now proven skepticism at the beginning of the Trump Presidency, I thought he was a just a fool, but now I fear he may be much more dangerous, he may be a traitor.  From the beginning of his ascension in the Republican Party, he has been suspect.  His [Trump’s] changing of the Party’s platform to advantage the Russians against Ukraine, the recent meeting of CIA Director Mike Pompeo with sanctioned Russian spies and his unlawful refusal to institute financial and diplomatic sanctions mandated by the United States Congress.  As my sons use to say when they were kids, “sumthin’ stinks Dad.”

Those are just a few of the bombs dropped on the heads of the public in the first year of the Trump era. The lengths that the die-hard Republican faithful are willing to go, in his defense, is astonishing.  As a result, lots of Republicans abide in their cowardice and live with a false sense of patriotism.  They quit instead of using their office platform to speak the obvious truth.  The most recent defection is the Benghazi King, Trey Gowdy.  Gowdy who was the forerunner to Rep. Nunes put together conspiracy after conspiracy. Had Mr. Gowdy had his way Hillary Clinton would have been guilty of murder, conspiring with an enemy combatant, dispersing of classified information, and exposing Janet Jackson’s left breast during the halftime of Superbowl XXXVIII.  Okay, I exaggerated a little but if Gowdy could have gotten away with it, Janet and Hillary would be exchanging packets of Ramen Noodles in Super Max right now. Perhaps it is not an act of cowardice or faux patriotism, maybe Trey is quitting because he is asking the same question of himself that my kids exclaimed, sumthin’ stinks…?
