We're Gonna Need a Bigger Boat

In the 1933 film King Kong, Fay Wray escaped the clutches of the giant ape who eventually fell 1,250 feet to his death in the heart of New York City.  Well, another Wray is threatening to pry open the fingers that are crushing fairness and truth in the United States.  New Yorker Donald Trump, must feel like a jump from the Empire State Building would be welcomed as not only Robert Mueller but now FBI Director Christopher Wray is exposing his corruption.  After hours of testimony to the Special Counsel [Mueller] we found out on Tuesday Jeff Sessions has Donald Trump panicked and contemplating running for higher ground.

The initial panic started with the Comey firing, then the public flogging of his biggest and first supporter, Attorney General Jeff Sessions (so much for the vaunted Trump loyalty to his cohorts).  He fired acting AG Sally Yates, with the excuse of her not enforcing his, soon to be deemed illegal, original Muslim ban.  Had he listened, Yates was trying to let Trump know his campaign may be in the middle of an impending scandal, but Trump’s paranoia and hatred for Obama led him to believe that Yates was an Obama plant looking to set him up. That miscalculation dictated that former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn be fired, and so on and so on and so on.

Now he wants the FBI Deputy Director, Andrew McCabe, to be summarily fired.  The current Director Christopher Wray reportedly made it clear to DOJ head Sessions and by inference, the President, that he would resign if forced to fire McCabe, who is retiring in about 90 days.  The right-wing propaganda machine is proffering the theory that because McCabe’s wife Jill, is a Democratic operative, that somehow makes her husband suspect. So according to the Trump White House, no Democrat should be working for the United States government…? I know this is reading like a bad setup to an old Perry Mason episode, but Mr. Trump seems most comfortable in fantasy.

So, we are back to the King Kong analogy. A larger than life figure on an island, of his own making, pursued by those who want to cage him and trying hard to avoid the machinery of justice that could bring him down. Of course, the President denied Chris Wray’s threat to resign or that the FBI is not doing a good job, although he described the organization as being in “tatters” less than sixty days ago.

Mixing metaphors a bit, Quint challenged the shark and the shark won.

One of the many memorable scenes from the movie Jaws (the first one) Hooper tells the mayor of Amity Island that great white sharks, “swim and eat and make little sharks and that’s all.” Well, Mr. Mueller is avoiding the chum in the water and munching his way to his target.  So far, four arrests two guilty pleas and the hiring of legal financial experts to check for money laundering and Bob Mueller’s legal mouth is only opening wider. America, we’re gonna need a bigger boat…
