Anyone with genuine wealth revels in their altruism and spreads their advantages to bring the less fortunate with them; Tom Steyer, and yes Oprah Winfrey to name a couple. Those who are pretenders to the throne ridicule their rivals and build their foundations on the broken dreams they create. Donald Trump has taken a sledgehammer to America and is enjoying the fall of its building blocks. He has loosened the gears of public law enforcement, namely the Department of Justice and FBI, assaulted the pillar of America’s voice, the press, and today it was revealed he has created cataracts in the eyes of most of the world in how it now looks at United States leadership. That includes a 40-point drop in approval by President Trump’s apparent favorite new country, Norway.
I used a lot of adjectives just to say the world now thinks we suck…
In less than twelve months Donald Trump has insulted practically all of America’s NATO allies and alienated all fifty-four countries on the African continent. Pretty good work if you want isolationism, providing an opening for Russia’s dream of dominating Eastern Europe and a repeat of the 1967 Arab- Israeli Six Day War. No wonder the world is hearing a discernible sucking sound and pointing to the West.
Probably since George Washington, political rivals have insulted, name called and otherwise demeaned their opponents. The frightening thing with the current President is that all the insults and derision can be proven true. He is a liar, he is ill-informed, he is a sexual predator and has bragged about and publicly exercised his racism. I am not a Trump supporter, obviously, but I truly wish the previous characterization was not true. I am a man of color and his ignorance is a direct threat to people like me. His purposeful bathing in obliviousness is not some garrulous act to be laughed at or treated as the daily entertainment talk show moment. The President’s tweets, childish and derisive naming of those who disagree is a problem. The President’s defenders have gained fame for saying, “take Trump seriously but not literally…”
Remember when your hard-drinking uncle would crash the car into the mailbox and then yell at you and your high school buddies for drinking a beer in the basement. Mr. Trump does not drink, and neither do I, but no mailbox is safe around him. Republicans will recite line and verse, Ronald Reagan’s shining city upon a hillspeech, but enthusiastically let loose a politically unstable wrecking ball on Main Street.
Next month the Winter Olympics are set to start in South Korea and I will admit I am scared. After all, the man described, by a Republican Senator, as “reckless, outrageous and undignified” has a finger on the proverbial nuclear button with hundreds of U.S. athletes and thousands of others from around the world in the crosshairs. Two men of questionable mental capacity, bad haircuts and itchy trigger fingers are in charge. One rash decision and in 24 minutes America could become a s***hole.
