Every discussion needs a foundation of fact to spur debate. From Funk & Wagnalls to Merriam- Webster, Urban and probably even the game Pictionary the definition of a racist is some variation of; “a person who believes in racism, the doctrine that one's own racial group is superior or that a particular racial group is inferior to the others.” The most ardent of Trump supporters cannot look you, moreover themselves, in the mirror and deny the obvious.
Donald J. Trump is a textbook racist.
I do not use that term lightly once you are labeled with such a radioactive term you glow with poisonous venom for life. Some earn the title, some are given the title, and some are victims of circumstance. Donald Trump is what is known in ice hockey parlance as the ‘hat-trick.’ I toss the baseball cap I am wearing onto the frozen heart that beats in his chest. He has done everything possible to earn the title. He called for the death penalty for a group of teens of color, even after the irrefutable proof of their innocence. He was given the title by both friend and foe from the Nixon administration to the Rev. Al Sharpton. He has continued his legacy and taken every opportunity from the U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and now Haiti to express his false sense of superiority, creating a fight at every circumstance to maintain his crown.
I am going to anger some and maybe create a false equivalency for others with my next statement, “anyone who continues to support Donald J. Trump is an unabashed racist.” I have heard all the quaint excuses about economics and displacement of the American worker, I am not buying it, the evidence is in. I am a Black man and I do not have the luxury of compromising my life and liberty for some utopian idea of economic security. I have often used the dichotomy of Log Cabin Republicans, as gay Americans how can you support a party that if they had their ultimate dream you would not exist. I am sorry explaining, trickle down does not excuse voting for a group that literally wants you dead. Somehow the Log Cabin groups stoke their own conflagration with misplaced symbiosis.
As a man of color, I refuse to engage in the destruction of my own people. It would be nice if I could wake up every morning and negotiate what freedoms I wish to enjoy, I cannot. I woke up yesterday morning Black, I woke up this morning Black, and if I draw a breath I will wake up tomorrow morning Black. Having some sort of rational discussions about which college to send my kids, or if I can afford a second car is minor when the President of the United States has plainly stated that I am the direct result of a “shithole.” For anyone who feels more offended by my words than the actions of the President then I suggest you get in that basket that Hillary Clinton made so famous because you are only proving just how right she was. I do not often write angry rants but sometimes anger is the most logical response. In 1972 I was a high school freshman and was told Governor George Wallace of Alabama was just saying what was on the mind of the average Joe. Wallace was, and Trump is a product of the same weaving class and neither amounts to a picnic.
Keep the Dream Alive…Happy Birthday!
