Donald Trump is being led, stumbling all the way, into his own version of the Reagan Plan, but he does not understand the scope or gravity.
The 40th President of the U.S. Ronald Reagan decided the way to show his base he was tough was to destroy the flight controller’s union. For his moral majority they were representative of unionized, inefficient jerks, being paid way too much, and getting handouts from the government; bah humbug, they’d say. Reagan apparently cut a deal with the Iranian government, prior to his election and as a parting shot to his predecessor Jimmy Carter, to free 52 American hostages, held for 444 days. I believe former President Obama, spoiled Trump’s Reaganesque plan by negotiating the freeing of 4 hostages in August of 2016 held in Tehran, which was probably a part of Trump’s planned renegotiating of the Iran Nuclear Deal, ‘curses foiled again by that Obama.’The next best thing to thwart the Obama legacy is to scuttle the deal and instigate the Iranians into the resumption of its nuclear program. But why…?
Bomb, bomb, bomb…bomb, bomb Iran
The long-term plan would be to get the establishment wing of the Republican party back by stroking Sen. John McCain’s REM sleep dream of bombing Iran and have you noticed he [Trump] and Lindsey Graham are suddenly golf buddies. He even has Graham issuing alleged fake sports news claims of Trump shooting a 73 on the golf course; (did he ever say if that was 9 or 18 holes)? Trump has reportedly asked the Joint Chiefs if America’s nuclear arms cache can be raised to levels of the 1960’s, from its current 4,000 to a previous high of 32,000 nuclear warheads. For those of you who remember, Reagan invaded the tiny Island of Grenada with overwhelming force and was lauded for defeating a fighting force that could not have overcome the Rhode Island National Guard (no slight intended Rhode Island).
I am afraid Mr. Trump thinks he can duple the rhythm of the Republican Saint, believe me, and double his output by bombing both Iran and North Korea. His problem is his absence of intellectual curiosity and heft, encased in failed personal rectitude and lacking a knowledge of history, will not allow him to process, that World War III would be the ultimate result. Trump’s version of freeloading air traffic controllers is the approximately 32 million Americans covered under the Affordable Care Act legislation. His supposed secret calls to deposed advisor Steve Bannon and the urgings of Stephen Miller are shaping his foreign policy. Reviving America First isolationism is doomed to failure just as it was prior to World War II. The world’s universal language is money, and the global financial interest of America, China and what is left of the European Union are too big to fail, "We must, indeed, all hang together or, most assuredly, we shall all hang separately." - Benjamin Franklin.
So, Trump is engaging the establishment by mollifying McCain and Graham with his threats to Iran and North Korea; appeasing the Tea Party or Freedom Caucus with cruelty to children, those with preexisting medical conditions and the disabled with cuts to the CHIP program, Medicare, Medicaid and now Obamacare; and with his little minion [ Bannon] holding the Sword of Damocles over the head of any moderate Republican who steps out of line, tyranny is just a paper towel toss away.
