We need a Hero

Faster than a receding bull market,

More powerful than a McConnell motive,

Able to leave a ghost in place of the man who brought down

tall buildings, with Navy Seal rounds,

Look, up in the Chicago skyline,

He uses the right words,

He sustained,

It’s Barack…Oh Man!

I located my friends in Houston yesterday.

President Trump made his way to Texas yesterday, not wearing a MAGA hat but displaying his latest piece of campaign merchandise, a ‘45 USA’ cap. His wife, Melania, was in tow adorned with a matching FLOTUS cap reminding us she is the First Lady.  It seemed petty to point this out initially, but the more I watched people clutch their children, wives, husbands, and pets I got increasingly angry.  The Twitler in Chief has, of this moment, not publicly memorialized the brave officer, Sgt. Steve Perez, who drowned insisting to his, now widow, he needed to leave the relative safety of their home and do his job.

Following the devastating horrors of Hurricane Sandy that struck New Jersey and New York in 2012, former President Obama struck a chord of unity.  We are all reminded of the iconic picture of him being greeted and extending a hand to Republican Governor Chris Christie of New Jersey.  Christie is often demonized by Republicans for touching President Obama amid the Romney/Obama presidential race.  No one has ever questioned Obama’s outreach to Gov. Christie; Why not? Because that is who he is. He was not hawking reelection merchandise, he hugged people and in turn hugged America.  Up close and breathing the aroma of a real human tragedy he was indeed Barack…Oh Man

His arch nemesis, the Mad Twitler, had by then begun his birther movement that consumed a little more than half of the Republican electorate.  The aftermath continues today with Republicans, Ted Cruz and Chris Christie still fighting battles over feeding, clothing and housing disaster victims.  Senator Cruz’ dance is essentially tapping a path of lies, trying hard to ask for help but not confirm his hypocrisy.

Cruz is earning his Presidential primary nickname, “lying Ted” doled out to him by the Mad Twitler. When supervillains collide, who knows what will happen.  Obviously, I am having a little fun with a serious subject but I felt so relieved this morning that my friends are okay I took a moment to breathe. What wiped the smile from my face was remembering the loss of life, crying babies and forever destroyed memories that will affect lives for years to come.

Much like the former President who reached out to members of both parties, faiths and all people I take time to remind us that the Red Cross is still waiting eagerly for your help. Nothing is too small and no prayer is too little.  Despite the current President thanking crowds for turning out, as if he was the dramatic star of his own reality show, please ignore the ancillary and remember the primary; HELPING.

Give to the RED CROSS or a charity of your choice.
