The Ben Carson narrative is based on his honesty, spirituality and service. In recent days we’ve found out that Dr. Carson, may be auditioning for the real life role of Fletcher Reede, from the Jim Carrey hit movie Liar, Liar. Carrey, portrayed barrister Reede whose success was based on a web of convenient and expedient lies.
If Carson were not running for the office of President of the United States, he would be as funny as the movie character, unfortunately for all of us he’s either delusional or dangerous. Dr. Carson, is becoming as predictable as the sunrise with an even more outrageous story daily. His defense to this point has been, because I may have lied so long ago it should not count. I confess I’ve lied in the past and probably will at some point lie in the future but I am not running to be the leader of the free world. I think one of the big differences between him, you or me is this need he has to create a caricature of a human dynamo that was alternately, dangerous, compassionate and brilliant (narcissistic much?) It also could be as simple as the cottage industry he’s morphed himself into, with what can be charitably called tall tales is all about the Ben-jamins.
The latest ironic twist to the growing Carson legend is his assertion that he was named the most honest man in his ‘Perception 301’ class while attending Yale. There is no record of the alleged picture taken for the school paper commemorating the incident and Yale Librarian Staff Director, Claryn Spies, cannot verify the class even existed. So the man who stabbed a guy named Bob, whom he now describes as a family member, attacked his mother with a hammer, apparently fantasized an appointment to West Point and calmly directed a thief who put a gun to his ribs in a “Popeye’s ‘Organization” to the counter, is either Walter Mitty or “The Most Interesting Man in the World.” The one thing I am sure of is, not now or ever should Dr. ‘Evil, Captain America’ Carson be considered seriously for the Presidency of the United States of America.
