Donald Trump is literally committing political suicide and preparing for an afterlife, hoping to return reborn in media heaven. His family is making the decision not to jump into the murky abyss with him and are desperately trying to save their own financial lives and brands. Last night in the city of modern American decadence Las Vegas, Nevada, Donald was displaying the Full Monty; gesticulating, name calling, petulant reactionary comments and just short of foot stomping. Donald tried to once and for all throw not only himself but the entire Republican Party under the bus. In an overlooked portion of the debate he said, he had not apologized to his wife because he had done nothing wrong. Just twelve days earlier Mrs. Trump said she. “hopes people will accept his apology, as I have…” Also on the night of the infamous tape release, just past midnight, Donald reluctantly read a prepared statement saying, “I was wrong, I apologize…” I have eight grandsons ranging in age from 1 year to 20 years. As children they could not look me in the eye and lie without a sense of shame, this seems to be sorely lacking in Donald’s character.
Trying as hard as he could to use the inflammatory tones learned from Steve Bannon, he accused women of allowing their babies to be “ripped” from their bellies. The king of the deplorables, was feeding his base, again repeating his claim that walking down the street in any Black neighborhood in America is an exercise in bravery. With all the bad schools, I suppose I would not be smart enough to understand the danger. Oh yes, he added a new subtle slur to his repertoire, “Bad Hombre.” One of his surrogates Jeffrey Lord, defended his language by bemoaning political correctness and stating that in 1950’s westerns he heard it all the time. From 1959 to 1965 Robert Cabal was a featured player in the cowboy series Rawhide, he was listed in the credits as “Hey Soos,” nothing wrong there…? Mr. Lord, progress is a good thing. It does point out this yearning old white men have to return to a day of controlling minorities and women. I am sure some are offended by the generalization of “old white men.” If you are offended, then it is up to you to take that tag and loudly and vociferously denounce the Steve Bannon(s) and Jeffrey Lord(s) of the world. As a Black man, I have lived under the oppression of monolithic racial profiling all my life. Welcome to the club Old White Men.
