The Reason for the Season?

An immigrant brown baby grew up to champion the stranger, defend those imprisoned, and demand we pay our fair share of taxes. Eventually, that brown immigrant formed a gang that defied the authority, embraced the ‘immoral,’ never shunned the gay community, and never spoke about a woman who had an abortion—not even chemical abortions (which existed). Eventually, that border-jumping brown man was executed for advocating for the oppressed and freedom of religion. Whether you believe Christmas is a crass money grab by corporations, an annual ritual for children, or a religious rite, Jesus was the brown baby who grew into a brown social justice warrior.

Republicans cling to the depiction of lily-white Jesus, as depicted by Leonardo da Vinci, despite his physical biblical description and region of the world where he was born. Conservatives (especially whites) who claim Jesus as their own—ignore the sick and poor, want to excise the imprisoned, the stranger, the LGBTQIA+, and go against the biblical teaching that a woman’s health and wishes take precedence over the fetus. A recently released video of a woman and her baby on the verge of drowning in the Rio Grande with a Texas National Guard border patrol boat nearby will be applauded or, worst, ignored by Republicans. Activist Priscilla Lugo, a justice advocate coordinator with the non-profit Latino Justice PRLDEF, a civil rights organization, filmed the incident with the unidentified woman.

It is unimaginable that the brown immigrant would stand by as a sinking woman carrying a baby shouted, “I can’t anymore. Please bring the boat closer,”the woman pleads in the video. “Help me! Please don’t abandon me here.” The people involved both physically and legislatively, who conceived of the idea that it is okay for immigrants to die an ignominious death will be gathered around a tree on Monday morning in matching pajamas. They will sing and open gifts to celebrate their faux Christianity in honor of a man who would condemn their actions but, unlike them, forgive their souls. In turn, Republicans are embracing evil language and deeds. When their standard bearer, Donald Trump, embraced the words of Adolph Hitler and repeated them, “They let — I think the real number is 15, 16 million people into our country. When they do that, we got(sic) a lot of work to do. They’re poisoning the blood of our country,”Trump told the crowd at a rally in New Hampshire.

Mr. Trump then went on to name two other regions of the non-white world, Asia and Africa, including them as part of the blood poisoners. Black Americans are well aware of the legacy of using the fallacy of tainted blood to perpetuate bigotry and hatred; see the one-drop rule. Just like the hysteria over the so-called economic anxiety that drove conservatives toward Trump, immigration is not a fear of crime or disease. Statistically, immigrants have lower crime rates than native-born Americans. Simply put, it is xenophobic at best and racism at its worst. The term replacement theory has been circulated in white conservative circles to encapsulate blacks, Jews, and immigrants claiming a grand conspiracy to replace white Americans.

The recent condemnation of a black disabled Santa Claus on Fox News—the brain of conservative thought, was a window into the philosophy of Christo fascism. Non-white and ‘non-perfect’ humans are not welcomed in white utopia. After all, Santa Claus is white, and Jesus is a white man too.

Happy Holidays, folks, and to all, a good night
