Requesting a Pardon is a Recognition of Guilt and…

Accepting a pardon is an admission. With all the talk of trials and pardons for Trump and his loyalists, seldom is there talk about a pardon being an implicit admission of criminality. While we pound away at the media interviewers of former President Trump over the past few months, (all women) Kaitlan Collins, Megyn Kelly, and Kristen Welker each have gotten Mr. Trump to discuss his consideration of a self-pardon. It does not take Clarence Darrow to know that Mr. Trump is demonstrably admitting his guilt. We are living through dangerous times, so much so a group of career military officers has formed a group with the aim of saving our teetering democracy.

Having spent time around military members—some in my family, I know how anathema they are to speak disparagingly about what amounts to their civilian bosses. The public fear and rancor amongst the retired ranks are not the first and probably not the last time with the presidential election happening in just over a year; we will hear an admonishment of Trump. Three retired four-star Generals and four Admirals penned an op-ed pointing to their dismay over Mr. Trump’s inaction on January 6 and his consideration of using the military in his plot to overthrow the peaceful transfer of power. In non-ambiguous language, the military commanders wrote, “The president and commander-in-chief, Donald Trump, abdicated his duty to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution.”

A group of somnambulates is gripping not just the media but the people of America. Every news story mentioning Mr. Trump should not sleep on his adjudication as a rapist, followed by his 91 felony charges in four jurisdictions and two impeachments, ending with his unfitness for office. Instead, we get the horse race talk of a close election by validating the people who believe JFK Jr. is still alive and Democrats are drinking babies’ blood. If you have doubts about the direction Republican voters want to take the country, you have to look no further than the current makeup of the GOP members of Congress. Rep. George Santos, whose excuse for his multitudes of lies is to use a line from the late Paul Reubens (Pee-wee Herman): “I know you are, but what am I.” Or the hypocrisy of Lauren Boebert, who was having ‘grope sex’ in an audience filled with families at a Beetlejuice musical. As of this writing, and with no evidence, the GOP is plotting to impeach President Biden or shut down the government. Senator and former football coach Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) has fumbled his responsibility by not only tampering with the readiness of the United States armed forces but also sacking the lives of military spouses and children.

A theocratic Supreme Court has affected the reproductive health of women, teens, and adolescents. A court that incidentally is making a parlor game of bribery and graft. One of the most frightening incidents happened this past weekend when two Missouri state Senators held a demonstration of flame throwers to be auctioned off. The initial story of state reps Bill Eigel and Nick Shroer, accused of book burning, proved erroneous. Not willing to leave well enough alone, Eigel, who is running for Missouri governor, said he would burn “woke” books brought into Missouri schools on the front lawn of the Governor’s mansion.” It’s sort of like asking for a public pardon before the crimes against humanity.
