Hey Cam, Have You Got a Minute to Talk to Bernie…?

Just this past February the Denver Broncos defeated the Carolina Panthers in Superbowl 50, 24-10 before a crowd of 71,088.  In the aftermath of the loss, Panther’s Quarterback Cam Newton pouted and refused to mentally accept defeat or questions.

With almost 4 million more votes and an overwhelming delegate lead of 2,219 pledged and 581 Super delegates, Hillary Clinton is the nominee of the Democratic ticket for President of the United States.

Cam Newton was not told by NFL officials they would soothe his bruised ego by allowing him to choose the design of winning Quarterback Peyton Manning’s Superbowl ring or how long the victory party should last, or who attends.  Senator Sanders tomorrow, has the opportunity to give his support to the Democratic Party or slump in his chair and pout, like Cam.  He is slated to give a speech touting and endorsing former Secretary Clinton’s bid for the White House.  Senator Sanders does not have to say, Mrs. Clinton was the better man or (woman) in this case.  He does not have to recant one iota of his policy beliefs or long held opposition to the so-called establishment or big money, he just has to say congratulations.

As a loyal Democrat, I am bored with the stroking and backpedaling for the sake of Mr. Sanders feelings and those of his delicate supporters.  I have watched and listened to the reputations of DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz being assailed, former Congressman Barney Frank being called a demagogue and Senator Sherrod Brown of Ohio, labeled a sellout.  Cam Newton was roundly and rightly castigated by sports journalist, fans and tv pundits for his less than gracious attitude following his team’s loss to the Denver Broncos.  It is time Democrats make some demands of its own candidate.  The unwillingness to concede and work fulltime to stop allowing Donald Trump to dog-whistle his followers that the President of the United States is a subversive who supports terrorism or Hillary Clinton is inviting terror attacks is the height of self-absorption.  Other than a ‘Meet The Press’ appearance calling the shootings in Orlando, Florida, “horrific and unthinkable” why have I not heard the Bernie or Busters and the remnants of the Sanders campaign loyalist as vociferous on gun control as they have been about Secretary Clinton’s paid speeches.

I hope this is not being perceived as an Anti-Bernie screed it is not, but it is a reality check.  I am a minority, or so I have been told by America.  I don’t have the luxury of making platform demands and calling for the ouster of people who have been loyal to the Democratic Party because, I did not get my way. Donald Trump is a bank of counterfeit bills on a spending spree, but if we don’t get our act together, he could flood the world with the worthless currency of his narcissism.
