It’s Not What They Say; It’s What They Want

After visiting the D.C. jail last Friday with about a dozen of her colleagues—including two Democrats to fact-check Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s group of insurrectionists sympathizers, Greene complained the inmates were treated differently. She says that the January 6 inmates are treated differently when what she really wants is for the rioters not to be treated like their black and brown counterparts. Republicans are very transparent if you ignore what they say and pay attention to what they want. Their attitude about the 1/6 rioters extends past the insurrection, and if you listen carefully, they give away the wish list.

The GOP pays lip service to concerns over depression rates that lead to the suicide of kids and teens struggling with body dysmorphia and gender-affirming healthcare. The theocratic state conservatives wish for does not include homosexuals, so deaths in the LGBTQ+ community are viewed as a biblical imperative. I cannot accuse Republicans of encouraging suicide among the gay community, but they are not ordering flowers either. In the face of books, history, and gay bans, the GOP says they favor an educated electorate but want the ‘poorly educated’ Trump courted in 2016. Again ignore what they say and concentrate on what they want. Despite biblical evidence and her banal on-air explanation and arguments about the race of Santa and Jesus, Megyn Kelly so wanted Jesus to be white.

Take legislators like Senator(s) John Kennedy (R-LA) and Raphael Cruz (R-TX), who camouflage their aristocratic and Ivy League educations behind fake cornpone linguistic tricks and cow pie naivety. Kennedy completed his education at Magdalen College, Oxford, and Cruz graduated from Princeton and Harvard. Yet you hear the constant diatribe about the elites. It is frightening to have their kids, your kids, and my kids potentially more intelligent than a GOP hungry for unquestioned and unfettered power. Unchecked power, whether it undermines the country or not, is what they want. Getting what they want is a return to the White House, even if it means giving our enemies aid and comfort.

A forty-five-year-old Joe Biden did not have dementia but was guilty of expedience. The GOP spin machine has spent hours, days, months, and years making President Biden out to be a feeble older adult suffering from mental fatigue and, at worst, dementia. President Biden’s misspeaks or gaffes date back to his infamous plagiarism of a speech in 1987. The then-presidential hopeful lifted portions of former British Labour Party leader Neil Kinnock’s speech. Biden admitted he used Kinnock’s words without attribution and apologized, but when integrity still mattered, it sunk Biden’s presidential campaign. Kinnock magnanimously acknowledged Biden’s gaffe and said years later, “Joe’s an honest guy,”said Kinnock. “If Trump had done it, I would know that he was lying.” The slower deliberate movements of a man his age or overcoming a life-long speech impediment (stuttering) is no more indicative of mental incapacity from a leader than a wheelchair-bound  Franklin Roosevelt leading the nation through the Great Depression and World War II.

Ignorance is a form of slavery

Since enslavement, learning was considered the most dangerous impediment to oppression. Frederick Douglass wrote, “Knowledge Unfits a Man to be a Slave.” The conservative movement loves to use the one quote they know, Judge a man not by the color of his skin, but by the content of his character,” on Dr. King’s birthday as a shield to hide their racism, misogyny, and homophobia. You have given away the game by saying the quote but treating the color of one’s skin or gender as their character. But honestly, is that not precisely what they want?
