Pseudo, pundit, politician and political hack, Ann Coulter, Sarah Palin and Alex Jones; why are these people allowed to pretend they are saying anything worthwhile? Before you cry foul, censorship or the First Amendment, I do not want these people shut up. I just wonder why so-called serious news media gives them credence. I love watching the Bill Maher show of Friday nights, I laugh hard, hold my sides and at the end I remember that he is a performer. I am sure Mr. Maher would agree he is an entertainer first and not the most qualified man to pick the next President of the United States. Like many of us, we value ourselves and our own opinions but most of us come to the realization that at the end of our brilliant meanderings, we are really full of it. Oh sure, I sit in front of my laptop three days a week and turn out what I think are fascinating insights but they are just my thoughts and wants. I too, know my qualifications for office or deciding who is fit for office are limited.
The problem with Sarah, Ann and Alex are that they are allowed to sit with really qualified people say something completely ridiculous, prejudiced or filled with paranoid fantasy and have talking heads nod knowingly as if they said something profound. Sarah Palin told us in 2009 that President Obama was setting up death panels to replace insurance company decisions. Ann Coulter, in a fit of pique, once suggested that Republican Governor Nikki Haley of South Carolina be deported. Nikki Haley who is of East Indian decent was born in Bamberg, South Carolina, exactly where would she be sent…?
Alex Jones deserves his own special place in the Hell of exploitive liars. Mr. Jones has placed himself in the pantheon of conspiracy promoters. In recent weeks he suggested, First Lady Michelle Obama, is a transsexual who because of a Joan Rivers’ joke had her killed. Before you laugh or dismiss his hallucinations he has also gotten behind the idea that the 20 children and 6 adults killed in the horrifying Sandy Hook Massacre are really part of a hoax perpetrated by the government to promote gun confiscation. These people have constant free access to the public airways and make large sums of money for their fanciful, bigoted and frankly, dangerous paranoia. How diluted and callous must you be to look into the faces of the parents of 20 dead children and the husbands, wives, parents and children of six additional murdered educators and tell them the family member they buried did not exist and were part of a conspiracy.
Ann Coulter has been a frequent guess of Bill Maher, Chris Matthews’s Hardball program and is interspersed with people trying to disseminate real information. If she was introduced as a self-promoting, demagogue to interject humor, that would be one thing but in staid tones and ‘preambled’ with her dubious resume’ I am told to take her seriously.
Ms. Coulter. Mrs. Palin and Mr. Jones are carnival acts, who have every right to juggle the truth and ride on the backs of their political Elephants. Just don’t interrupt the pursuit of reality with a sideshow of bearded ladies and the dog-faced boy and demand to be taken seriously. When you blatantly lie in my face, I think you are ‘LOUDLY’ declaring, you believe I am stupid.
